Welcome! When visiting El Dorado's Wine and Gold Country, we invite you to stay at our small chicken-and-hog ranch that sits on land that was once settled by the Miwok People of the Sierras. Here you will find ancient grinding stones and a rock-lined trail along abandoned summertime swimming holes. At the base of this rustic escape, you will find a cascading waterfall that was surely admired then as it is now. Invite your friends and family to explore these ancient living grounds that boast towering oak, pine and cedar trees with all the wildlife native to the Sierra Foothills. There is also a mile-long seasonal stream that meanders down the property along carved granite rock formations. Miles of hiking trails give access to opportunities for recreational activities like mountain biking, mushroom foraging, birdwatching, ancient native-village-site exploration, and nature-gathering. If you are a forager, keep an eye out for Lion's Mane mushrooms which we often find on fallen or decaying oak trees. Beginning in July, be prepared to pick wild raspberries that grow and ripen along the drying creek. Our small ranch is a natural habitat to a diverse wildlife population that includes quail, turkey, deer, and bear. Our herds of sheep, goat, hogs and chicken vary with the season but they are usually "just hanging around" the farm eating the spoils of a forest rich in life and forage. When guests are around, they are usually kept in their pens where they get to relax with their dine-in buffet of grains, grass and forage. There is tent and RV space access for overnight and multiple-day recreational trips however there is no gray or black water dumping on the property. This is an ideal spot for a private group/family getaway so come enjoy a rustic retreat that you, your friends and family can build strong memories around. Contact us for multiple site rentals and coordination prior to your booking to ensure an exceptional stay for you and your guests. Somerset, CA is located in wine country and is within minutes of award-winning wineries and farm-to-fork eateries so you and your guests can enjoy the best of both worlds on and off-site. There are popular local swimming holes along the Middlefork of the Cosumnes River a short 5-minute drive and a scenic pond for kayaking, canoeing and fishing within 10 minutes of the ranch. We are less than an hour away from Sacramento and about an hour away from Tahoe just below the snowline.

Overall, a welcoming, positive trip
Overall, we enjoyed our stay! The tent and amenities were top notch. Comfy beds, great shower, good weather. The thing to rave about is the customer service. The team helped so much, checked in on us, recommended things to see and do. A record number of double yolk eggs in our dozen! The trails were ok--many were overgrown. We found some of the Miwok sites, but weren't able to find the caves. So much poison oak that we kept away from it at all cost. That's one of the downsides. The animals were awesome, but the smell does waft to the site--be aware before booking. If you're ready/used to it before you come, it won't bother you. But the flies will! Mosquitos only for a short time each day, but the house flies just buzzing around got annoying--cause the animal area is closer than it appears in the pictures.

Extremely accommodating host!!!
Great place with a great host! We had issues with our site but the host bent over backwards to make our time enjoyable. The stream was not running but that is due in part to the time of year we decided to go. Lots of shade!

The campsites are very close to a main road and traffic is loud starting around 4am through till the evening. It doesn’t feel like camping when so close to the cars and very disruptive for sleeping. The river is a 5-6 minute drive and a short hike in. The river is beautiful and refreshing but you do have to plan to get into the car and walk in to get there. The farm animals were unexpectedly tough for us. The animals are right next to the camps and roam freely. Their poop draws tons of flies which are constantly covering any food you may be cooking or eating. Overall, I expected much, much more from this camp. We drive 4 hours each way and it was far from worth such a long journey. The dust was overwhelming. We couldn’t take our dogs off leash because of the roaming animals. The open kitchen was nice. I think this camp would be best away from the traffic and animals..

Amazing! Loved campsite #3 cuz it's more secluded. But def bring your own plates/eating utensils if you are gonna cook there. Appreciated waking up to all the animals and critters haha. 20-minutes to the town of Placerville if you want a great town to hang. Grateful for the recommendation of the property Manager Isabel who suggested going to the Cosumes River Gorge, just a few minutes away.

Tent Site Near Waterfall
I had a great time camping here. The water fall was mostly dried up but still was a beautiful site and very peaceful. This camp site is very close to a store if you forget anything and also only a 5 minute drive to a section of the river that you can hike to and go swimming. The camp site is a good place to star gaze or just get away from the city. I loved the outdoor shower also. All in all it is a great value for getting away and tent camping.

Great Camping Trip
Had a great time camping here! We loved the animals. The shower and sink were great to have. Short distance to a large river, we went exploring and had a blast. Fresh eggs were delicious. Highly recommend.
