Near Redwood National Park
Within a 30-minute drive from the Hiouchi Visitor Center.
The campground land is remotely located on private property and perfectly located for excursions to the Pacific Ocean, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River National Recreation Area, and the Pacific Coast Ranges and mountain lakes such as the Devil's Punchbowl, Buck Lake, and Raspberry Lake. Relax and free you mind while camping on 119 acres of private property under starry skies with almost no light or noise pollution. In the surrounding area you can enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, surfing, mushrooming, berry-picking, beachcombing, birdwatching, and countless other outdoor activities. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings, and campers are provided with 5 gallons of potable water, an outdoor, cold-water Artesian shower, and an outhouse. Bundles of wood are available for an extra charge when you book. The campsites are set within a deciduous and pine forest at about 1913 feet in elevation. There is a pond on the property, but its purpose is for wildlife habitat only so no water activities are permitted (that is, no swimming, fishing, boating, etc.) The property owner has a dog, two cats, and a menagerie of yard birds such as turkeys, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. Kirk has lived off-grid for over twenty years and holds a wealth of information about the Gasquet/Del Norte County area. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the property is that it has had documented Sasquatch encounters over the past twenty years that have been published in "Tribal Bigfoot" (D. Paulides 2009). Kirk can tell you about his experiences with this and other phenomena on the property.

Quaint little site
Great site. A little closer to the other sites than we anticipated, but altogether a beautiful place to be during the June Full Moon. Thanks Kirk!

Sounds of nature are abundant. Situated in the tree ontop of a hill gives the feel of peace in nature

Remote hideaway up a mostly unpaved but good and easily negotiated road in a mixed forest. Clean, quiet, peaceful, apart from the distant soulful sounds of peacocks, Room for 4 camps but we enjoyed 2 of our 3 nights alone. Friendly , unobtrusive host provided us with water and firewood. I enjoyed trying out the camp toilet and outdoor shower- we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and being conveniently located for the Redwood Forests, Crescent City and Smith River.

LOVED IT!
We absolutely loved camping at Free Your Mind Camping! We loved how remote it was, and we were lucky enough to have the whole campground to ourselves. The compost toilet was so clean and way better than a porta-potty! Kirk was very friendly and gave us some great tips on the best places to go to view the Redwoods. You could tell that Kirk cares for the campground every day with how clean it was. You can hear Kirk’s peacocks and chickens, but they are quiet at night.

Seerenaded by Peacocks
We had the whole campsite to ourselves, which was lovely. There was drinking water, campfire dousing water and even some nice beers waiting for us. For $10 they provided 12 logs for the fire which ended up being more than enough. You can hear roosters and peacocks almost all the time, which add ambience. We'd do it again.
