The California Gold Rush began in Coloma in 1848 when James Marshall found the first nugget at John Sutter's sawmill.  The rest is history and you can explore that history visiting James Marshall Gold Discovery Historical Park.  You will also be staying overnight on our property that was once the Methodist Episcopal Parsonage back in 1850's.  Step back in time and discover the glory of days gone by! Learn more about this land: You'll delight in seeing the daily dose of deer and turkeys that pass through the property. Walk to Gold Discovery Park and the American River - only two blocks away! Plenty to discover at the park and consider doing a white water river adventure while here. Unfortunately, only campfires are permitted when rains commence in CA. There is a convenience market across the street if forget anything. We are not a commercial campground. You'll delight in seeing the daily dose of deer and turkeys that pass through the property. Great stay
We had a great time RV camping at Doug’s place. The site was set up nicely, and there were many deer we watched. We walked to the river and to the gold panning lessons. It was an awesome stay and we will book again if we go out that way.

Lovely Place
I had a great experience staying on Doug’s land. Spacious, potable water, shade trees, close access to all local amenities and adventures. Lots of room for my dogs to enjoy. First night I stayed alone, before my family arrived, and I felt very comfortable and safe at his location. I would certainly return!

Great Spot, Very Walkable
We would definitely recommend Doug's land for camping. Here's a few highlights: Doug is a very nice and accommodating host. The location of the campsite is very walkable to Coloma, hiking trails, and the river. Plenty of shade and spacious. Firewood for campfires (if allowed by the county). Convenient washing station and toilet. We got a kick out of the frogs croaking at night. Dog friendly!

Doug was such a kind host. He checked in on me to make sure I was doing well. As a solo female traveler, it was important to me to feel safe and Doug provided that environment for me. I would definitely stay again and recommend to others!

It was quite spacious and the host worked with our group to make it a great experience. In order to access the river, you must walk along a highway to get to the river which was a bit busy but very close.

Just what we needed
The site is clean, quiet, and provides everything you need to camp out for a few days: potable water and a real sink, a port-o-potty, a covered picnic table, a couple of lounge chairs, and some relatively-level land to pitch a tent on! I stupidly let my dog off of his leash and he chased after some deer, which gave me a bit of a scare, but he came back after 5 minutes (whew). The land is mostly fenced-off, but the HWY is adjacent, so I could have lost my dog forever. The store across the street is extremely over-priced, so come prepared! (Though they do have a great selection in case you do need something--river shoes, propane, fire wood, water, ice, etc.) There's nowhere to plug in your electronics, but everyone in my party had a cell signal, which is somewhat rare for camping. The river really is just right there! I'd stay here again.
