For over 40 years, Sacred Earth has been cherished by many as an example of sustainable off-grid living immersed in nature. While it is just 12 minutes drive from the village of Ben Lomond, 30 from Santa Cruz beaches, and 90 minutes to Berkeley, this valley feels as though you are deep in the wilds, complete with old growth Redwoods you can stand inside and far- reaching majestic Madrones. The land is home to the headwaters of Love Creek, with springs to be found in fern gullies and gentle babbling brooks. The breathtaking ridgetop has expansive views down the San Lorenzo Valley southeast and westerly views to Ben Lomond Mountain, the final hill between this place and the Pacific. Don’t miss the sunrise with meandering mist rising off the valley. Large sites allow for family and group gatherings/activities, while small tucked in tent sites provide hidden nooks. Hiking trails (open in dry season only) encircle the land and allow for moderate walks throughout its mostly vertical terrain. What is truly dynamic about Sacred Earth is the sheer diversity of plant and animal species combined with its proximity to world-class surfing, sailing, scuba, mountain biking, hiking, birdwatching, etc. Make your stay in Santa Cruz Mountains at SER.This large camp site that has room for 3 tents around a central circle. It is a nestled cove of tall redwoods with a fairy circle perfect for chilling inside. You can drive up to this site. This site is accessible to 2 wheel drive cars. If you have 4 wheel drive you can visit the ridgetop by car. There is a porta potty adjacent to the site. It is a great spot for a family getaway, pitstop or reunion of any kind. Please reach of if you wish to host a larger gathering for a day on our ridgetop. ( There is a small white puppy named Kayla who is very social and playful who lives down the hill. While we try to keep her contained, should she visit you, please text us and we will come collect her. She likes flip flops and small toys so please keep your shoes and small toys inside your tent.)

Deep in the forest
My son and I loved our stay! We stayed the night of October 11th and didn't encounter any mosquitos at all. You really feel like you're deep in a real natural forest - its not like a typical state park campground. At night we heard noises of animals and birds and breaking branches. It's possible we were hearing the lovely and friendly dog Kayla running around. She visited us when we woke up in the morning and went on a short hike with us. It felt like an adventure getting there. The written directions were great (don't try to use GPS).

Great but not with young kids?
It could have been really fun but it was abnormally hot that weekend and the place is not toddler friendly at all. The type of dirt makes everything black right away, which was challenging with young kids playing ball, crawling and falling all the time. The 3 kids were completely covered in black, and with the heat, we were pretty miserable. Also, the dog is pretty cute but stole the kid's ball, my husband's gloves and probably other things that we don't know yet. We left after one night. Not the owner's fault, bad timing with temperature and probably not the easiest place to go camping with young kids.

Tent camping was truly beautiful on Hope and Colin’s property. The ridge view was gorgeous and watching the fog creep over the mountains was unmatched!! The porta potties were super clean and driving directions were PERFECT. Only thing is it was it was very very quiet except for snapping branches at night and got a bit eeerie, but that’s just perspective and being there alone there with another young girlfriend. If that’s your jam this is your spot!! Truly feels like you’re in a forest

Beautiful space. Very quiet and had a really great and restful time. Host was very nice and helpful when we wandered off a bit on a hike. Be sure to pay attention to all the private property signs! Be sure to bring bug spray because there are mosquitoes.

We had a wonderful stay at the Sacred Earth Retreat! The location was beautiful, peaceful, and private. There was no one else nearby. The circle itself was well shaded, but also open and not at all crowded. Having a portapoddy nearby was unexpected and made the trip all the more convenient. We parked at the site and still had plenty of room. I recommend this to anyone and we look forward to our return!
