San Diego Mountain Lodge is a beautiful escape to nature sprawled out over about 40 acres on a breathtaking spot that we call Hideout Mountain in Santa Ysabel, CA. Multiple experiences are offered: -- glamping in our vintage camper trailers, -- RV sites with full hookups and incredible views of Lake Henshaw -- campsites, -- luxury camping in our remodeled cabins (studio, 1br, and 2br cabins) each with different amenities ranging from full kitchens, wood burning fireplaces, large outdoor decks and private fire pits. Gather and share ideas with fellow guests at our community firepit and picnic tables. What makes Hideout Mountain a magical place? #1 on the list are the stunning views as far as the eye can see of Lake Henshaw and the valley and surrounding mountains. We also have a one-of-a-kind, world renowned restaurant and bar on the property: Josie's Hideout Saloon, open on weekends with live music. We are located just a few minutes drive away from downtown Santa Ysabel and Julian, with easy access off Hwy 76.

The Cove: Oak-Tree Shaded Campsite
Not bad. Chill spot for the price. Being able to have a campfire really immerses the experience

RV Campsite #1 - The Crossing
Great for RV and road bike riders!
Fun little spot to set up camp for my wife and I! Spot number one easily accommodates, one RV, but would easily fit two as well. We We’re welcome by the entire staff at the location, which was a nice touch. They showed us all the facilities, which was a great way to start our trip. Access to water and electricity were a great plus. Additionally, having a shower facility and bathroom facility to use definitely helped us from filling up our waste tanks in the RV. The best part for us was that had easy access to Palomar Mountain Road to go road bike riding. Super quiet and peaceful at night. In fact, we couldn’t hear any of the other guests that stayed on the property with us.

The Cove: Oak-Tree Shaded Campsite
Lovely site, moderately quiet and moderately secluded without being isolated. The Cove has a good amount of open space for camping and maybe even some small games for groups. Most of the area is well-shaded, with the exception of the East end in the morning, so be aware of tent placement based on your desires. Signage is currently limited for The Cove, and the area needs campers to collect the foliage from the ground and burn it in small amounts at a time to keep it cleaner and more fire resistant. The public toilet/shower, which is up the hill a little bit, looks to be almost brand new and is in great shape and ia great idea. It could use a ventilation fan at the top and passive ventilation screens at the bottom as it does get very hot inside the small toilet area. Overall, I enjoyed my 2-day stay. The small bar/tavern nearby that usually has a live band is a nice bonus.

RV Campsite #1 - The Crossing
Very nice ... with some caveats
We made a last minute booking and were able to arrive within just 20 minutes or so. The site was easy to access and spacious. It is set amongst trees and private. At night the area was quiet aside from an occasional passing car on the road below. The onsite manager was friendly and helpful. Despite the caveats below, we enjoyed our stay. For a single overnight, it worked well. I would likely not book the spot for multiple days however. Things to be aware of ... * Although the site is described as level, it is definitely *not*. I had the front of the trailer nearly on the ground and I was barely able to level it front to back. And with 6" of leveling blocks on the downslope side, I was still at a 5 degree angle side to side. * There is a restaurant owned by the same landowner on the road adjacent to site #1. It is probably 300' away down a steep slope. While it is close, the slope provide complete privacy. Fortunately it is only open from mid morning to mid afternoon on weekends, because it attracts tons of bikers that are extremely loud. The restaurant itself plays loud music outside and uses a speaker to announce when food is ready. If you are hoping for a tranquil spot in the woods during the weekend day, this isn't it.
