Cozy Cabin 8 called "Carmel by Sea"
Tucked away but close to everything
Beautiful quiet location with lots of amenities. Might be tough for big rigs to navigate the turns, but this also adds to the charm of this place. The pool is nice, public showers are great. The gazebos with firepits are solid. We hung out there for awhile and chatted - looked out over the view.

Walk-in Tent Site
Camping at SMR was a true delight! The office recommended the 5 mile hike and the views did not disappoint. The sites themselves are adorable and quaint, and the amenities are better than expected. I will definitely be returning.

Site 10 - Luxury Tent
Would book again!
Great amenities. Easy check-in and out. Really enjoyed the fire pit. Freshly laid wooden floor. Clean. Comfortable bed. Close to the restrooms with nice showers. Felt quite private even though there were 4 tents somewhat close together. Peaceful location, although there was what sounded to be a wedding in the valley and you could hear the music until about 10:30PM. That was a Saturday night.
All in all, would certainly book again!

Partial Hookups Tent Site W/E
Expensive and neighbor noise.
The facilities were great, though there was no hot tub and the pool, though heated, was pretty cold. But those are minor issues compared to CLEAN BATHROOMS and showers, which was very appreciated. Also filtered water.
My only big issue is it was very expensive to just park my car in a spot with electricity, so i could charge it. I slept in the car. $170 after tax. To make matters much worse, my neighbors on one side were up talking and laughing until 3:00 AM. I should have gotten dressed and out of the car and knocked on their door, but that's not a simple thing to do when camping in a car, so i just laid there hoping they would go to bed like normal people, at some point. Never happened.
So, the very odd part, is that if you report the noise to the Camp, which i did the next day, the Camp will charge a noise fee of $100 to the offending camper. That fee doesn't come to me to offset the outrageous amount of money for my campsite, so i don't really understand the point of the fee, except to punish the campers, but why does the Camp benefit? That money should come to ME, the victim, not just bonus money for the Camp. So, in essence, the Camp made $270 minus expenses from my one night visit.
There should be major emphasis on QUIET AFTER 9:00 PM signs everywhere saying that even a low conversation with open windows can be easily heard 10 feet away in your neighbors tent or open windows. They do talk through the rules, but no hard emphasis on this.

Luxury Tent - Pet Friendly
We just stayed at this location, and it started out great with a wonderful host and check in. There is also a great hike and most of the camp is in a good location. However, the location of the glamping tents is in the worst section of the camp. Right next to a street with road noise and an outside neighbor who chops wood with a chainsaw most of the day and early evening. We called the host ( a different one from check in) and were told in a very unfriendly way that they can’t do anything about outside noise. Okay fine. We get that, but we then asked for a one hour late checkout since undisclosed road noise and wood chopping keeps us up at night. We were told that she had no way of doing that, but that the GM would call us to let us know. We never received a call. The irony is the other tents were empty since it was midweek. We just left on time and will never go back. I think Hipcamp misrepresented this experience.
