Stargazer
Safe, secluded, and serene.
I had a great experience at Spirit Walk. As advertised, it is quiet and serene, with only adults. The grounds have two hot showers and two toilets, along with a very well stocked kitchen, good working grill and stove, and a large eating area. It also has a very nice communal fire pit.
The individual campsites are quite private, especially ours (Stargazer,) and they also have small fire pits or fireplaces of their own.
The host, John, is super helpful. He was always available to answer questions and solve problems (although because the place is so well set up, we didn't have any.) He is also very clear about where everything is and how it all works.
All in all, it was a terrific experience for us...and we needed one. My girlfriend and I are total newbies at camping, and we probably couldn't have handled something very complex, weird, noisy, etc. This was perfect for us.

Juniper
Amazing experience
Spirit walk truly is a diamond in the rough. John is one of a kind and welcomed us with open arms. He is super down to earth and made us feel comfortable as new campers. I highly recommend Spirit walk to anyone looking for a relaxing, peaceful getaway.
Oaktree
Good experience w/ considerations
Overall we had a good time but there were some pros and cons
The site was very well kept. We stayed in Oaktree and were grateful for the shade from the tree due to the heat. Note - the campsite was small so fit only our tent (4 person Marmot) but no chairs. We loved hanging by the swimming hole all day which was on the property and beautiful. We also liked the communal setting and all the kitchen supplies provided by the host including plates, silverware, pot, pans, etc. There were other good amenities such as an outdoor shower and outhouses with compost toilets.
Our biggest issues were the Yellowjacket bees that were relentless the minute food was brought out at the kitchen area. Thankfully they were more interested in the food than us but it was still uncomfortable and annoying with them swarming around.
Things to keep in mind - you can’t drive all the way up to your campsite so will need to carry your supplies on a short walk down some stairs to the site. Not the biggest deal but worth noting.
The most concerning thing for me was the compost toilets which were ultimately the campers responsibility to change which involved carrying a bucket full of everyone’s poop around the back of the outhouse and replacing it with an empty one.
Again- overall a nice experience. It was also close to town and lake Isabella so you there’s plenty to do.

The Playhouse at Spirit Walk
Beautiful and Revitalizing Refuge
John has created something truly special here. We had an incredibly comfortable and relaxing time in the Playhouse. Even though it was very hot, we were able to cool off in the stream made all the more beautiful and meaningful by our visit to the waterfall, as suggested by John. Every last detail seemed to be extraordinarily well thought out. The entire grounds function with great respect and regard to the environment without compromising comfort in the slightest. 10/10 recommend and will hopefully return for a visit again in the future.

Stargazer
BOOK IT!
The Stargazer site on John’s land is truly an experience. Keep in mind it is the farthest site from the parking area so if you have a lot of items, make sure to choose another one. It is the closest site to the red rock Creek, and the communal area was pristine with everything you need. I had the pleasure of meeting Ana one of the Retreat workers the day I was leaving and she was so sweet, and accommodating in helping me to navigate other places in the area I wanted to explore.
One of the main features I have to gush about is the outdoor shower! It is a new feature, and I don’t think it is advertised on their website just yet, but it was truly the highlight of my experience! It is not a place to party, it is not a place for large groups, it is a place to truly go and find yourself and experience some wonderful peace and quiet. I was lucky enough to have the entire place to myself for three days. Thank you so much again John and Ana. I will definitely be back.

Stargazer
Thank you John for sharing your beautiful sacred land with us. Spirit walk was just the hideaway we needed. Stargazer, while a little trek from the parking area, is a tucked away, spacious site that felt so private and peaceful and was totally worth the extra steps. We were extra lucky however, to have had the opportunity to enjoy the entire property in solitude for 2 of the three nights we were there. A unique experience to truly connect with the land, what a treat. The swimming holes, creek and various wildlife were magical ... we can't say enough good things about this beautiful land .. we look forward to visiting again in the future
