So sorry about our naughty huskies
I think the best part about a Hipcamp spot - such as this - is that you get the benefit of having your stuff on private property. And we took advantage of this, often leaving our belongings to go explore, spend the day in town etc. We also loved that we were allowed to do campfires!! And there were even logs ready and stocked!!!
The outhouse was nice, stocked with toilet paper and even a trash can for things that don’t compost. The hot shower is pretty awesome to have and it’s pretty fun to try on a cool evening!
Aside from the land being an absolute paradise with more room to roam than what you would get at any ol’ regular public campsite, Joe was an awesome host that took the time to make sure we knew how everything worked and that we understood the instructions he printed out for us. Joe has the place set up to where you wouldn’t need to bring much except food and tent stuff, and your small gear. He has the camp furniture and stove ready, and some cookware. Theres even a sink with soap!
There was great privacy overall, but as you walk along the creek deeper into camp, you are able to see a glimpse of Joes cabin up the hill, and unfortunately our bad huskies were overcome with curiosity multiple times and they did run to his cabin and possibly chased Joe’s pet cats. I feel that owners bringing their dogs should know that there are cats nearby, because this does matter with certain breeds (such as huskies, who can’t help themselves because they’re naughty).

Visited in June. Nice private spot on creek. Cool mountain air -great place to get away from summer heat. Camp kitchen, fire pit and deck helpful additions. Includes compost toilet away from tent sites. Did not get to use shower- but looked cool. Away from it all- but still easy drive to downtown Durango.

A beautiful spot with all of the amenities. Joe really thought things through to make sure you have everything you could possibly need! I only wish I had more time to stay and enjoy the property.

We’ve spent plenty of nights in the canyon but this trip was one of our favorites. The property is amazing. We got lucky with leaves changing and a supermoon! The site has everything you would need. We will definitely be back.

Great little mining camp 🏕️
Has pit toilet, gravity fed hot showers, cooking area w some supplies. Tent area next to river. Shaded area to stay out of rain if any. Joe gave a great tour when I arrived. I enjoyed the solitude of my stay. Parking area you can hear road noise but enough foliage you can’t see the other part of the camp from the road. Easy directions. No cell service. Would definitely stay again.
