A back-to-basics campsite that’s well placed for visiting Oxford and the Cotswolds

This simple site on a smallholding, with chickens, sheep and horses, offers nearly-wild camping in Oxfordshire fields and woodland. It’s well connected by road and rail, which can mean some road noise, but the pay off is that it’s easy to reach – including for those escaping London. You can finish work in the city and be enjoying the campfire by supper time. And if relaxing in the rural surroundings of site isn’t enough, there are plenty of day trips from here. The dreaming spires of Oxford, Blenheim Palace and the edge of the Cotswolds are all within a few miles.

Huckleberry Farm is as rustic as it sounds so don’t come here expecting bells and whistles. What you can expect is a warm welcome from the Marshall family, lovely views across fields and the chance to truly relax away from modern distractions. The site is off grid and back to basics but water and loos are provided. And there’s a small children’s play area too. This is a place where entertainment is provided by farm animals, visiting wildlife, and the flickering flames of your campfire. It’s a place to let the kids run wild, building dens in the woods and swinging in the trees. It’s what the Marshall family came looking for and what they’ve kindly decided to share with us campers: freedom on the farm.

Off site, it’s less than two miles to the nearest pub in Bletchingdon village and a similar distance to Islip train station from where it’s just a 15-minute ride into Oxford. It’s the same stop you’ll arrive at if you ride the rails from London – a journey of one hour; slightly longer in the car. You might well be content with a weekend of wild camping, woodsmoke and walking, but if you want days out, the car’s a good idea. It opens up more adventure in rolling countryside and the chance to visit pretty villages with charming country inns.

Welcome to Huckleberry farm! Pitch a tent or park a motor home, we can accommodate your style of camping! Come and meet the ponies, chickens and guinea pigs. Choose a spot in the back field or woodland to pitch your tent. We accept tent bookinbgs all year round. Campervans, caravans and trailer tents are accepted between 1st April to 30th September. For those with a motor home there is plenty of parking on our driveway as you pull in off the road . If the weather is wet preceeding your booking your vehicle will need to remain in this area, but you are.of course welcome to wander freely around Huckleberry Farm. We have a portaloo on site and access to drinking water. There is some road noise as the a34 bypass is a couple of fields away but the air is clear and fresh with a totally rural outlook. The village of Bletchington is 1.5 miles away with a local pub and a coop. Or you can drive into Bicester for a full range of shops and eateries, including the famous Bicester Village designer shopping outlet. Oxford is equally close for the cultural experience and this can be accessed most easily from Islip train station just 1.5miles from Huckleberry farm. You will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but literally 10 minutes from everywhere!

The horse’s poos were everywhere in the camping pitch. Literally, I had to set up my tent on the horse’s poos and slept on them. Only one portable toilet was there and it was far away from the camping pitch. It was not clean and No water was next to the toilet. Water tap was inside chicken fencing which was also far away from the pitch and not easy to access. Everyone had to park their car in car park and carried them stuff all the way to the pitch. I chose the closest pitch and it was 3-4mins walk. I had to carry the rubbish by our car to the rubbish collection point. The owner didn’t help to handle it. Highly recommended if you want to challenge yourself.

Pros: Charlotte is lovely, really helpful and down to earth. The horses and chickens are cool! The description and photos are accurate. For the field / open camping there is lots of space. This is a friendly small basic site and easy to find and get to. Cons: The noise from A34 was a little bit more than we expected. The facilities are quite basic as this is not primarily a campsite but a pony centre. The woodland areas are quite small. It wasn’t quite right for us so we didn’t stay - but Charlotte was so nice about it.

Loved it

Fanatic place to stay. Was very rainy when we went there but Charlotte pointed out to us the best bits under the trees, and offered us some eggs from her rescue chickens in the morning! Will definitely come back when it’s sunny!

Pefect campsite for wholesome vibes

Can’t recommend this gorgeous place anymore - completely peaceful and private. The horses are so friendly and feels very wholesome watching them graze whilst the sun is setting. Charlotte is such a warm and welcoming host and made us feel totally at home. Can’t wait to come back!

Perfect camping; not glamping.

Was an amazing site. And exactly as described. It’s an in development site and as such there are less amenities but it actually feels like camping. We were the only ones there between some booking and we able to pitch up beside the little creek. Charlotte was really friendly and we had a really peaceful stay. We used this as a base to go to Blenheim palace flower show for the weekend. Can’t wait to see how this site develops over the years; as we return.

We moved onto Huckleberry Farm at the end of March 2022. It was in a sad, neglected state and it is a work in progress. It is fast becoming a tidy and tranquil place to be. Better suited to those looking for a beautiful, but no frills, wilder camping experience. #atOnewithNature We provide equestrian services including pony therapy at Huckleberry Farm, as well as producing our own fruit veg and with the help of some feathered friends; free range eggs! Hire a wooden teepee in the woods, pitch a tent or park a motor home*; we can accommodate your style of camping! Come and meet the ponies, chickens and guinea pigs. We have a portaloo on site and access to drinking water. There is some road noise as the A34 bypass is a couple of fields away but the air is clear and fresh with a totally rural outlook. Please note that road noise will be louder for motor homes as they will be allocated parking in the large gravel driveway at the front of the property. When the weather is warm and the ground firm vehicles can access the fields and woodland at the back if the property, *but if the weather preceeding your stay has been very wet, you would have to leave your cars/campervans on the driveway and walk down to the fields and woodland. The village of Bletchington is 1.5 miles away with a local pub and a coop. Or you can drive into Bicester for a full range of shops and eateries, including the famous Bicester Village designer shopping outlet. Oxford is equally close for the cultural experience and this can be accessed most easily from Islip train station just 1 mile from Huckleberry Farm. You will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but literally 10 minutes from everywhere!
Nearby attractions

The edge of the Cotswolds is just seven miles from site and Blenheim Palace is one of its closest attractions. It’s the UK’s only non-royal palace and Winston Churchill’s birthplace. You can tour the buildings, gardens and grounds on a visit. There’s lots of great walking in the countryside of the Cotswolds and plenty of pretty villages to explore including Burford, considered by some to be the UK’s prettiest village, just half an hour’s drive from site. Oxford is just eight miles away. Visit it to go to the Ashmolean Museum, to see its historic university buildings and perhaps to go for a punt on the river. For shopping, Bicester Village is six miles away.

Food and drink

Huckleberry Farm is less than two miles from the village of Bletchingdon where there’s a pub, The Blacks Head Inn, which serves food and a shop. That should be enough for your campsite needs, but if you want more choice, the large village of Kidlington (a town in all but name) has more shops. For a cream tea, try Annie’s Tea Room next to the Oxford Canal in the village of Thrupp or the Orangery Restaurant on a visit to Blenheim Palace, one of several food options there.
