Troyes, capital city of the Aube department is recommended for a visit and is only 30 miles (50 km) from Meurville. Numerous museums and medieval buildings pack the narrow streets of this historical city. During the second week of June it hosts various Champagne Fairs.
The Champagne Tourist Route is a 373 miles (600-km) signposted circular trip through the beautiful "Region du Champagne" and tourist offices can point you in the direction of champagne producers with cellars open to the public. Running between Bar-sur-Seine and Bar-sur-Aube the trail leads through Meurville and can be picked up there.
For cultural visits in Côte-des-Bar: the cistercian Abbaye of Clairvaux funded in the 12th century by St-Bernard, the cristal museum in Bayel (ex Cristallerie Royale de Champagne funded under the reign of Louis the XIV), the house of the impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir in Essoyes, the Memorial Charles de Gaulle in Colombey-les-deux-Eglises, the amusement park Nigloland.
About 19 miles (30 km) north-west of Meurville is the "Lac d’Orient". It is the largest one out of the three man made lake in the Orient Forest Regional Natural Park, once home of the Knights Templar. It includes two marinas and three sand beaches, the Espace Faune (wildlife area), an educational farm in Champs-sur-Barse, a tree climbing park in Lusigny-sur-Barse, an ecomuseum in Brienne-La-Vieille and a Napoleon museum in Brienne-le-Château.
The Aube has countryside of gentle rolling hills and picturesque views, it is a lovely place to take a walk or hire a mountain bike and explore. If you travel by car, you will pass many villages where you will want to stop and relax.
