This lovely cottage is off grid (be aware that mechanical issues may arise and makeshift homes nearby). The home uses solar power and catchment water. There is a kitchen as well as a grill on the deck. We have a full size bed and sleeper sofa. The bathroom has a toilet and shower. Enjoy the other worldly scenery in the lava fields, the beautiful sunsets over the ocean, followed by the stars and Milky Way at night! Lava viewing in the crater from the National Park!There is a bed that fits 2 and a couch that fits 2. Parking is available. Amenities are available within the cottage. This place is completely off-grid. Please note there are neighbors nearby.

Blue Lava Cottage

Dark skies and bright stars

We loved our stay at the Blue Lava Cabin! Melissa was very responsive via text and answered all our questions, and we were able to find the place easily when we arrived after dark. We had to pivot and leave at 5am to journey to the summit of Mauna Kea on our motorcycles to avoid high winds that were moving in for the rest of the week, so we never got to see the surroundings in daylight, but the lava field the cabin sits on would have been surreal. There's a huge deck to hang out on, and the stars were spectacular! The cabin was cozy and had a well-provisioned kitchen, the shower was hot, and the PV-fed battery system powered the house lights and charged up all our devices while we slept. This was our second night on our 6-day motorcycle tour of the island. We would definitely stay here again!

Perfect week in Hawaii

We enjoyed staying at Blue lava cottage. The night sky is unbelievable if you get clear skies. It was great for a one night stay. The host was great!

Blue Lava Cottage

Truly unique spot in the lava fields! Worth it for a night or two. It’s not super close to everything but if you have the time to travel, and are looking for something different then this is a great place to experience. The sky in the night is absolutely amazing to see! The home has all of the basics and we had no issues with the water or power. 👍🏼🎉
