Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

This place is out there…which we loved! Yip camp was a great escape for us, and close to Volcanoes NP, which we visited both days while at Yip Camp. Outdoor (concealed) shower and toilet are clean and close to the parking spot. We ended up with a larger than expected campervan rental (18’ Ram Promaster). We fit, but only just. Thomas and Yip were great hosts. Enjoyed our conversations! Would recommend, especially if you are looking for some solitude!

Amazing little spot!! So cozy, feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere but so convenient for visiting the volcano. Sounds of nature, camping with frills, and the perfect spot to come back to after an adventure. And obsessed with Yip, the host dog!!

Thomas was very kinda and welcoming. This campsite is remote so nice for anyone looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Beautiful stars at night and the cabin was comfortable.

Fabulous stay
We are biking 🚴 around the Island and it was nice to have a cozy cottage to stay in on a very rainy day. Thomas is a very friendly welcoming man. The place was sweet! Clean sheets, drinking water and a diverse quiet neighborhood. I’d definitely go back. Mahalo Thomas and Yip (lil doggo)

Yip camp cottage was amazing. Night gazing was an incredible experience among the sounds of the forest. Also great location if you are looking to go to the volcanos! The cottage was spacious and clean. Thomas was super accommodating and friendly! Great communication!

Night at Yip Camp
Tent ·
We had a great night at Yip camp. Thomas was very generous and shared firewood and lighter fluid with us so we could make a fire in his fire pit. The lot is very peacefully tucked away into the forest. Yip was lively and full of mischief!
