Welcome to the base of the beautiful Selkirk mountains, we’re nestled in between the beautiful lake resort town of Sandpoint ID and the picturesque resort area know at priest lake. Our property was originally homesteaded back before Idaho was a state by a trapper who fell in love with this lush little valley in the mountains. Once Idaho did become a state, the officials decided to keep the land surrounding this little oasis making it completely surrounded by thousands of acres of state endowment land usable to the public. There are three full time creeks that run though the property along with a few beaver made ponds and one large man made swimming pond. The site boasts hundreds of campsites ranging from dry RV parking to small tents on rock ledges overlooking the lush valley. Expect to see deer, elk, moose, turkey and a few other wild animals roaming the land around you. We have the space for event camping as well, we have a large covered gazebo for shaded group meals. Furthermore there is also a band stand for ceremonies and live music on select dates. We’re only 12 miles from town but you get that feeling of being out of the rush of the outside world.*We had a mosquito complaint, however we did address this issue and the last campers said there were very few left about. We are keeping a close eye and will respray as necessary* Hose shoes, volley ball, space for corn hole and just about any out door activity you can imagine. The lower sites are drive up and unload, however for the motivated campers there are many beautiful secluded little spots nestled in next to little creeks and rock bluffs for amazing views. We have covered areas for gathering for meals and there are lots of available camping tables for use. Bring your floaty and relax on the swimming pond or just lounge on the dock or sandy beach. At night we have a large bonfire area and if weather permits we allow personal camp fires as well. We are open all year, some dates are blacked out for events and music festivals but the festivals are also open to the public so you just have to get here early for the better spots. In the spring the roads get a little muddy, but it’s the perfect time of year to roll out your side by side and get a little dirty. Late spring early summer, brings out all the beautiful colors and abundance of mushrooms, berries (huckleberries, black berries and even wild strawberries) just to name a few. The creeks are filled with little brook trout for you angles. If you’re a hunter, we offer a great spot to camp while you’re searching for your game. Winter time is great for bringing you snow machines up and accessing 100’s miles of riding trails right out the door.

Prater mountain escape
Great...once you get there!
Loved the property once we got there. The last couple of miles are one lane, rutted mountain road. Take it VERY slow and pray no one is coming because there is no place to pull off. The property itself is very spacious with room to roam. The swimming hole is small, we would have spent more time there but another group had the small beach taken over most of the weekend. The owners were welcoming and very helpful! We'll likely book again now that we know what to expect.

Prater mountain escape
It was super last minute during The Festival at Sandpoint timeline, as we were booted from a different site due to them double booking. Not an issue here! Very spacious. We pulled in, set up far away from the other campers and just hung out. To reiterate the guidance from the host and other campers...DO NOT take the route from the east...unless you are on Highway 2! We messed up, took the mountain road and barely made it. Memorable none the least , 😁. Would be awesome to book for a large family get away. Saving this site in my lists for sure.

Prater mountain escape
Prater mountain was amazing. It is large enough to host a wedding or maybe even a small music event. It has space for parking, lots of picnic tables, a big gazebo and a small stage. The swimming pond was great for us since the temps were in the mid 90's. The water comes from the creek and is constantly flowing, so it's actually quite clear, and cool! The best part was having our old dog with us on the trip. It might be his last camping trip, so we chose a place that allowed dogs. He loved it! It was a really special trip!

Beautiful secluded spot. Lots of amenities but there is no potable well water or pump... just a steam coming from under a cedar tree.... also the road coming from the east side of sand point is not recommended for 2wd vehicles! I barely made it up with my prius. There is a West entrance though that the should really put as the entrance instead It's much safer and won't wreck your car! Otherwise the owners were very friendly and greeted us themselves. Lovely gorgeous property 😍

I thought Prater Mountain was awesome. The elk come down to the salt lick at all hours of the day, it’s really fascinating. The owner was awesome, property was clean.
