Twenty years of growing this farm... Not what grows here but the farm itself! Stone and brick pulled from the ground till we found the beautiful earth beneath and built an incredible community around it. Or rather, it grew itself from the energy that surrounds it. It's a special spot where you may happen upon a fire in the sugar shack while we boil city collected sap into maple syrup or have an open jam night with world class jazz musicians. Enjoy the morning serenade of our rooster! Really, just come and be here. Though we think we're pretty cool, a few things to note that you may not think are so cool: There is a train that runs directly behind the farm. Light sleepers, may want to bring ear plugs. Bring your tent to The Vaudeville! (RVs, campers, trailers, vans please see the ** at the bottom). Our urban farm is smack in the middle of Chicago only a 10 minute bike or train ride from Downtown, Lake Michigan, The Mag Mile and all Chicago has to offer! Bike the Lake Shore Trail, walk the 606, kayak the Chicago River, catch a blues show or Hawks game or just relax with the goats and chickens in the 9,000 square foot farm that we absolutely love to share with fellow campers! ** We have stopped hosting RVs, campers/vans, pull behinds and larger vehicles because we are finding it difficult to get them in the entrance gate but if you feel amazingly capable with your backing in skills in your rig and you're super patient, laid back and extra cool, let us know and we may be able to make it work!! :)Bring your tent (or request gear from us) to The Vaudeville! Not located in a great neighborhood. Entry/exit not ideal for vehicles larger than a sedan.

Pretty disappointing…
I do want to say that the hosts were friendly. Unfortunately, it was dreadfully hot when we arrived and there were no options offered for escaping the heat. No place to be indoors, no access to water. There was barely even shade available to stand in. No shade available to set up camp. We didn’t see potable water available to us. The street where this property is located seemed relatively safe but has nothing on it(amenity wise) and just one or 2 streets over is a really sketchy part of town,& we were there midday. The property was covered in junk(old cars, scrap metal, scrap wood, old fencing, tools). There was one port-a potty that had not been emptied or serviced in a long time. There was also no access to any electricity. There were very limited spots and really only one “good spot” that was already taken by other people. We were informed by the hosts that these people “gave up” after suffering the heat and rented their Airbnb which is also on the property(but also that they had no options for us even a refund was out of their hands and only could be done through Hipcamp). There were multiple mulberry bushes/trees in the yard and our van(inside and out) and stuff was covered in berry juice after only being there for about an hour. I’ve stayed in many hostels before and knew to expect an experience but the limited amenities offered at this location were very disappointing. It’s a great idea but needs some improvements ! No amount of cute farm animals will make up for that

Convenient location, easy in and out, and fun to see the goats and chickens. The train noise is the only negative—definitely recommend bringing ear plugs unless you’re a heavy sleeper!

Site was perfect for what we were needing. The host was super nice. Only thing I would not recommend are the eggs. Not sure if the chicken area has ever been cleaned.

Wanted to like it, but felt unsafe
I really wanted to like this campsite. We tent camp 3-4 weeks a year, and have stayed at a lot of different places. I've never felt more unsafe than here. We checked in on a Friday night, and set up camp. We came back about midnight. There was a guy on the street who kept watching us, and watched us go into the tent. I actually kept looking out the tent window to see if he was still on the street watching. We made it through the night fine. The next morning things seemed ok. We went into the city early and came back about 4 pm. We saw someone wrote on a van, "Ready to Die" in red. Neither one of us remembers seeing that that morning or the night before. We went to check out our tent, and the rain tarp was disconnected from the poles and the snaps to connect the tent to the poles were partially undone. I was traveling alone with my teenage daughter so we very quickly packed up and left a day early. It might be a safe camp if you're there with other people, but I didn't feel comfortable staying any longer.

Nice idea, wrong location.
Overall the experience was odd. Host didn't seem to live onsite. Random people seemed to enter the camping area unannounced. One seemed to be allowing their dog to use the area as a bathroom daily. The site was enclosed by a fence however it seemed to be in the ghetto. We heard gunshots multiple nights in a row. The gas stations around the area seemed to reflect the ones you would expect to find in the hood. We were attempting to save a buck and broaden our horizons. We ended up feeling unsafe, neglected and leaving early. This was our third vacation to Chicago.
