Started as a retirement experiment, Rockcastle Riverside is a story told of music and family.  We have almost 200 acres of beautiful country surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rockcastle County. With a mile of river to swim, kayak, and fish and enchanted forest trails to hike, climb, or play, we have all of the best Kentucky has to offer! We have more established sites with fire rings, or you can find a place off the beaten path for more privacy, if you choose. The riverside is perfect for hammock camping, too.  We love music and often host bands on the weekends. We rent kayaks and canoes on site, as well.  While there are almost 200 acres to escape into, on any fine night, the stage sits wit a drum kit and the will to make music within the Daniel Boone National Forest. Come play, come get away....we have it ALL! We have a little of something for everyone!

Rockcastle Riverside Primitive Camp
Not as Advertised
We booked this site because it was supposed to be secluded and private. This place was not at all as advertised. When we got there to check in the woman who we had booked through didn't know anything about it and told us to just drive around the building and pick a spot. All the spots were right next to each other in a loop, no privacy at all, barely a tree between each one. The campsite beside us, who told us ran the place, decided to have a full blown party with a "flame thrower" that was still going strong when we decided we had had enough and packed up everything and left by 1 am because someone then started a drunken drum solo session. Dogs are allowed off leash, which is nice, and there were a lot of pups around for our dog to play with. The primitive campsite set up was not bad and the bathrooms were nice, but this is not the place to go for a calming private camping trip. Would not recommend this place to anyone that actually wants to camp, it is just a party arena.

RV Site 20
Really lovely place. The odd numbered RV spots back to the river, the evens on the (quiet, country) road, and the lower numbers are closer to check-in/the bathroom and shower in case that helps you select a space. There's plenty of room and the shower in the bathroom was huge and beautiful, though I was only there one night and did not take advantage. The beach is rocky but still pleasant, and there are trees and shade to be found pretty much everywhere on the grounds. (To be fair, the ones in the RV area were clearly planted specifically for the purpose of shading the individual sites and aren't -that- large yet, but they're at every site and they're growing. A nice touch that will only get better with time.) Friendly folks, too. Would like to head back sometime and stay a spell when I'm not just passing through!

Rockcastle Riverside Primitive Camp
Loved!
The atmosphere at this campground is quite laid back. Totally Non-touristy. Sites are first come first serve I suppose because I was told to drive through and pick what I like. There were showers and clean flush toilets. There is an outdoor stage for events, kayak rental, and shuttle service. Everyone was respectful about quiet hours. My dogs absolutely loved it there especially playing in the creek. I enjoyed all the little cubbies the mowed trails led to and exploring the creeks and grounds. I highly recommend Rockcastle! Marked solo woman safe.

RV Site 11
We really enjoyed our stay at Rockcastle Riverside. We will definitely book again. Grounds, sites and bathroom were all well kept. Host and staff were friendly. They had live music on the weekends which was a nice surprise and the property was beautiful to explore.
