We sit on 50 acres north of Lake Pontchartrain. We're bounded by the Big Branch Wildlife Reserve to the south and a Rails to Trails bike path on the north. We are 3 miles from LaCombe to the east, Mandeville to the west, and about 1 mile from Fountainbleu State Park. Most of the farm, 80%, is mixed hardwood forest and designated wetlands. Desert Bayou and East Branch Bayou meander across the property which is home to deer, foxes, bobcats, owls, fireflies, otters, raccoons, turtles, and, well, about anything common to the wilds of the Gulf South. This includes a litany of snakes, mosquitoes, and deer flies in their season. About 5 acres are used to raise poultry, bees and organically farmed blueberries. Overall, the land feels primordial and pristine. We are a designated Monarch Waystation and in the spring and fall see many migrating butterflies. We cultivate a lot of flowers so almost year round you can see butterflies in profusion. We are part of the USDAs Conservation Stewardship Program, concentrating on protecting and increasing habitat for animals and pollinators. Dogs are welcome, 2 of them live here, but the chickens often run free and chasing them or the deer for fun or food is not acceptable. This is a rustic situation: think dry camping, outdoor (heated) shower, and port-o-lets. We have hookups for one small RV or camper close to the barn. In addition, we have a 10x10' treehouse, and several places to pitch a tent. The farm is pretty secure--someone is on-site most of the time, it's gated, and there are security cameras at access points. But it is a farm in a rural community--you may hear roosters crow, sheep bleat, dogs bark, and the mule bray along with the sounds of owls, hawks, coyotes and other native wildlife of the area. If this suits you then come stay and enjoy the farm life.

Treehouse in the Pines
It was nice to see a working farm, with diversified, small-scale farming. I an avid gardener, and whole-heartedly believe in permaculture, and regenerative agriculture, so I really liked what I saw at Big Branch Apiary. I think adding the Hipcamp element is a great idea, both for the owners/ proprietors, and for all the guests that get to experience what they have created. The treehouse in the pines was rustic, comfortable, and affordable. As a woman traveling alone, I really appreciated finding a safe place to spend the night while traveling across the country.

Bayou Tent
We had the best time! Cheri was very kind and even loaned us a fan for our stay in the bayou tent which was spacious and comfortable . The girl's LOVED all the animals and blueberry picking was an added bonus to our stay. We will definitely be back!!

Bayou Tent
A MUST
I almost never leave reviews but when your experience is as great as mine, you must. Went with my boyfriend and it was both our first time camping. We weren’t fully prepared, but we know now what we need for next time. The hosts were amazing and it wasn’t just a tent they give you it’s an entire experience. They give you a tour of their property and introduce you to all the animals. If you are thinking about doing it, stop thinking and just do it. Some recommendations would be to bring some form of light, night vision goggles (although expensive it is worth going out at night), bug spray, longs pants, and something to start a fire. Last thing is the night will take some getting used to but if you stay in the bayou tent the bed is so comfortable and the cicadas, frogs, peacocks, and owls are the perfect sleep machine.

Treehouse in the Pines
Treehouse Camping
The treehouse was an awesome and exciting stay! It was a very cozy shelter with a comfy hammock and cot to sleep on. The treehouse held up great against the rain we experienced while we stayed there. The hosts were very kind and welcoming upon arrival and were happy to help with anything in need! The farm was great with clean facilities for use. I would certainly come here and recommend this place to others.

Berry Field Camp
Restful Beautiful Property
Beautiful spot!! Plentiful firewood and they let me snack in the fruit that grows in the farm as I wished. Lovely animals all around, I saw a beautiful white peacock roaming on my way out. Felt very private and secluded while still being a short drive to stores and restaurants. Will return!
