Nestled within 45 acres of wooded hills and valleys, Estes Place offers a tranquil retreat just 5 miles from the Town of Hancock. Situated near the scenic C&O Rail Trail, ideal for paved walking, running, and biking, our location also boasts proximity to popular eateries such as IHOP, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and a variety of local dining options. With capacity for over a dozen tent sites, each offering unique accessibility, seclusion, and amenities, Estes Place caters to a range of camping preferences. Our two main sites feature fire rings for campfires (weather permitting), along with a porta-potty for convenience. Site one is accessible to small campers and pop-up trailers, while sites 3 and beyond are accessible by walking, backpacking, ATV, or very small compact 4WD vehicles. Explore approximately 2 miles of moderate to intense loop hiking trails and gravel roads, meandering past half a dozen year-round streams and foot-long waterfalls teeming with salamanders, frogs, and crayfish. Experience the vibrant wildlife that inhabits our surroundings, from daily sightings of deer and squirrels to nightly visits from barred owls and bats. Keep an eye out for occasional appearances by turkey, sapsuckers, woodpeckers, porcupines, raccoons, foxes, and coyotes, with the possibility of encountering a black bear annually and even a rare sighting of a mountain lion. During March through June, lucky visitors may stumble upon up to 8-inch black morel mushrooms, while certain years bring the elusive cicada and their deafening buzz. Summer nights are illuminated by enchanting displays of lightning bugs (fireflies) amidst the warmer temperatures. This is the main campsite for tents and small camping trailers and pop-ups! There is a fire pit for campfires (weather permitting), and a rustic bathroom/porta potty. There is level space for parking and turning around, but there are no hookups of trailers. This is our most accessable and accommodating location. 4WD recommended in wet conditions.

Safe and secluded on a mountain top
4 m campervan · With pets ·
Devyn and his family have a really amazing location tucked away far from the road. He went above and beyond to accommodate me. His directions are excellent and I would definitely recommend all wheel/4 wheel for rainy days since I was the only one there and had a whole mountain top to yourself. There are trails on the property that were fun to walk with the dog. It was working trip and Devyn came through! He said he’s working on a package deal for those of us who need to work but also need open space and fresh air. He also provided local recommendations which proved very helpful. As a single woman I felt very comfortable staying on this site and would absolutely recommend it.

Fantastic stay

Devyn is a wonderful host. He responds quickly and respectfully. I was able to get over to the spot within a few hours of booking for a last minute accommodation. The directions are precise and accurate. The spot itself is the top of a hill that I had all to myself! There is a very clean outhouse that’s super convenient. There is a fire ring but during my visit a fire ban was in place which is completely understandable. This trip is a working trip and Devyn managed to set me up with WiFi which he will be bundling as an awesome add on for those who need it. Devyn also provided me with great recommendations for all things local. My dog spotted some wild turkeys while on one of the trails within the grounds. The trails have markers and there’s even a map showing them. As a single woman traveler, this spot felt private and safe. Would absolutely recommend.

Quiet place in the woods
6 m campervan · With pets ·
We enjoyed two nights at the top of the knob where the loudest thing around was a very far off horn of a freight train. The county enacted an emergency burn ban the night before our arrival and Devyn was quick to offer to refund our firewood. It was a great stay, great host, we would definitely come back.

Best stay ever!

We had an amazing stay at Este’s Place. We were looking for a refuge after an emotional and busy work week and came and had a great time with our two dogs. Although it was cold and we were unable to have a campfire, we made the most of our time and went on a nice little hike and got lost in the woods. It was the perfect amount of time and solitude for us and we left feeling refreshed. Devyn was such a gracious and understanding host. We’ll definitely stay again!

Had such an amazing time! We loved the privacy and the beautiful woods surrounding the site. There was a bin with some essentials which came in handy.

Devyn’s land was a great weekend escape. We have a small squaredrop camper that fit nicely on the flat patch of land. The outhouse was clean and convenient. He stopped by to check us in and deliver eggs but otherwise we were left alone in the peaceful woods. Would recommend especially if you like hilly hiking; there are a couple of paths to hike on the land.
