Nurturing the adventurous spirit through, Community, Local Food, and Live Music in Northern Michigan, Backyard Burdickville is a special place just outside of Empire, MI offering camping, Live Music, The Lively Farm, and NeighborFood Market. Visitors can explore the beauty of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore by day and our starry landscape by night. Our 40x50 rustic campsites offer a picnic table, and about half are equipped with Fire Pits w/ Screens. Potable water hydrants and clean, regularly serviced porta-johns are available. Sites can accommodate small campers and camper vans but are not equipped for large RVs or motorhomes. If you are looking to park your larger camper vehicle or trailer, and need electricity, let us know as we do have a few larger sites with access to standard power outlets and can accommodate a larger camper. We do not have septic hook-ups, but can help you arrange a clean out from our portajohn servicer. However, out of respect for fellow campers, we do not allow generators in our campground. We aim to be family friendly! We want you to have fun, but please respect your neighbors. Quite Hours: 10pm-7am, 11-8am on Saturdays. If you need anything while you're here, we make every effort to be available onsite in the camp office (the small camper behind the wood) daily 12-4pm, and by phone, the number will be listed at our office onsite. Please send us a message if you have any questions or need anything during your stay! Address: 3805 W Empire HWY, Empire MI, 49630

Open sky camping + market!
Super organized, neat and well planned out campground! Gorgeous sunsets every evening. Tall grass and stakes are used to divide up the sites, so it’s not super private, but still plenty of room to spread out! I’m thankful to this Hipcamp host for being extra clear in what each campsite has to offer (morning shade, firepit included, picnic table, electric, etc.) The land is flat, which was perfect for my camper van! I believe they accommodate all types of campers. There’s very clean porta pots laid out on various parts of the campground with a handwashing station and trash cans. There’s also a farmer’s market which I didn’t get a chance to see while I was there, so I’ll definitely stop by on my next visit! :)

The area was quiet and peaceful. The outhouses were very clean. Great view of the night sky. Only negative was that there’s no shade to the west, so it got pretty hot during the afternoon.

GREAT Low-maintenance Cabin!!!
For a relaxing Memorial Day weekend at Traverse city and the Dunes that didn't break the bank, Emily's site was a life saver. We could've chosen to stay in the rv park sites and sleep in our sedan, but going the extra bit and paying for a cabin was 100% worth it for us. It was at least half, sometimes less than a third of the cost of nearby hotels for the holiday weekend. Even though we came in after 9 pm, Emily greeted us at the cabin and showed us the amenities on site and was so gracious. We found the Shirley to be a clean and modest 1 room cabin; it charged our devices, was comfortable, and the best part was the jaw-dropping view of the stars just outside the front door. There's not running water inside the cabin, but on the property there are nearby portable toilets, accessible drinking water, and bundles of firewood for sale for the firepits at some sites. 11/10, would absolutely stay again. Note: Make sure to check in with the owner before reserving to make sure its ready for new guests- sometimes Hipcamper messes that up.

We greatly enjoyed camping here! Emily was a wonderful host and very accommodating. We loved the relaxed vibe and how easy it was to book. When we arrived, we asked the host if we would be able to move campsites for more privacy from other campers and Emily let us browse the campground and pick a whole new site. She’s the best! The bathroom could’ve been cleaner, but that was the only con. For the price, it was a nice stay. We’d come back if we’re in the area again!
