Wellknown Buffalo/Crow Indian Camp
Little Bighorn history up close
Location on the historic grounds was meaningful and deepened our experience tremendously. We were greeted warmly by Adam, who guided us to a nearby cafe for dinner and helped make us comfortable for the night. Matthew made our delicious breakfast and both shared information and perspectives of the history and continuing evolution of the American Indian culture. Memorable and lovely.

Stay hWhat a Gift to be with you!
Stay Here!! my family will never forget visiting during Crow Fair and feel blessed to have stayed with Peggy and her camp of family & friends. I didn’t know what to expect and, not wanting to pack a lot on our flight from Massachusetts, had a ton of Qs. Peggy was kind, super responsive, welcoming, and helpful. If unable to reply quickly, she had friends or family help! They set us up basically right on the fair grounds and near the banks of the Little Big Horn River (the kids and I walked over for a swim). We got to be a part of the famous “1,000 tee pees” - on comfortable mattresses and bedding! Our 3 days were interesting, educational, fun, inspiring, moving, tiring, and amazing. Despite warnings to bring ear plugs to avoid road noise / trains, I preferred to fall asleep to the drums from the dance competitions (across the way) and hear the wake up song at dawn. We saw beautiful parades, Grand Entry, Indian Relay races (too tired for the dancing competitions, so I want to go again!). We visited the site of the Battle of Little Big Horn. We went wanting to be respectful (despite knowing zero about Crow culture) and hoping to feel accepted despite not being a part of the Apsáalooke (Crow) Tribe, or having experience visiting any Reservation. We felt included and accepted like family, and wemade new friends. They do important work to support the community and I look forward to keeping in touch and contributing to the food bank and community center as we are able. With Love!

Favorite Spot
Staying here will be a memory that our family cherishes forever. We’ve been on the road for 6 weeks and this was hands down our most favorite spot. We arrived late and were graciously welcomed by Mila, she was very helpful and kind. Watching the sunrise over the field was spectacular. Thank you!!

Wellknown Buffalo is AWESOME!
Wellknown Buffalo – Peggy and her family – is AWESOME! We had the amazing privilege of staying in the family camp for Crow Fair, and had the honor of seeing some of the family's kids first dance – and we really enjoyed visiting with the wonderful people there!
They made sure we were warmly welcomed and had everything we needed and more!
Having Indigenous ancestry, I have always wanted to go to the Crow Fair, and now that we had the opportunity, it was fantastic – and the kids say they want to return again… We cannot say enough good words about Wellknown Buffalo, the Crow Fair, and the wonderful people we met there!

Grateful!
We were grateful to camp here and reflect on history and place. Mila was generous with her time and with sharing about that history, as well as their good work with the local community. The bathrooms were clean and warm, the weather was lovely for tent camping, the animals were well-mannered.

Very special place!
I really enjoyed my stay here! I was a late arrival, and Mila personally greeted me and made me feel very welcome! She helped me get settled in, showed me to my site and where the showers and bathroom. She gave me a short but sweet history of her family, the property and the amazing work they are doing there. She was overly accommodating, and offered for me to use the café as needed for Wi-Fi or phone, charging, etc. Bathroom/showers were clean. The view I woke up to in the morning was beautiful! Rolling Green Hills, and a view of the Little Big battlefield was within sight. I Also loved waking up to the horses around.
A nice but simple breakfast was provided in the morning, and the best thing about it was the freshly roasted and brewed coffee that we made in site. They have a sweet little café and gift shop on site with local Goods and art.
I slept in my vehicle, one thing to know for light sleepers is a train did go by a couple times in the evening around 10 , but this did not bother me Personally.
I highly recommend staying here, it was a very special and unique experience. Also easy on and off to highway.
