Elm Grove Sanctuary provides the perfect environment for a digital detox. Visitors are welcome for family holidays, wedding receptions, and retreats, with cabins and camping options
Set in the picturesque Goobarragandra Valley, 28 kms east of Tumut, we are surrounded by Kosciusko National Park with spectacular mountain scenery.
There's plenty to do while visiting: fishing, bushwalking, swimming, stargazing, picnics, campfires or just sitting under an Elm tree with a book.
We have Campsites by the river with a simple camp kitchen and basic toilets available. These sites have easy 2WD access and space to turn a caravan around.
We have dogs, and are a Dog friendly campsite. (We also have chickens, so if you bring a dog, please make sure that it is going to be friends with our chickens, or kept on a leash.)
There is no mobile reception, so you will not be disturbed by the outside world when you visit paradise.Welcome to Elm Grove Sanctuary community. We are a gathering of like-minded families living simple rural life in community. We love the land and aim to be as self-sufficient and organic as possible.
We have campsites available at our picnic grounds by the banks of the Goobarragandra River. If you're looking for a digital detox or a secluded getaway then this slice of paradise might be just the place for a weekend away.
Enjoy swimming in the fountain of youth, the joining place of two rivers, the Peak and the Goobarragandra. It includes a BBQ area and a wood-fired pizza oven.
We have composting toilets (no shower), and we are dog friendly. We are a family friendly farm, wanting to share our land with other families.

Elm Grove Sanctuary offers a stunning riverside location with lush elm trees and clear water, ideal for swimming and relaxation. However, campers should be prepared for a lack of privacy and basic facilities, as the site often hosts more visitors than advertised, leading to crowded conditions. The composting toilets are a common point of dissatisfaction, noted for being poorly maintained. Despite these drawbacks, many visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the opportunity to disconnect from technology.

Overall the property is beautiful and we had a great time. The thing is when your paying that much you expect you will have your own private area. We were under the impression that it was 10 camp-sites but when we rocked up there 80 people or more camping on the grass area all quished in. We had to find our own spot no designated areas which made it hard for privacy reasons and to stay with our group.
We understand that a camp toilet isn't glorious but at least put some saw dust there so it does smell. Or make it so you can go in the bush but as there was no privacy you couldn't do that.

We were initially disappointed upon arrival to find that there were a lot more than 10 groups camping (as advertised). Especially since the number one feature I seek out is privacy/a limited number of sites. That being said, we were lucky to still snag a semi private spot near the river and this turned out to be one of my favourite Hipcamp experiences and probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed in Australia. All of the green combined with the fresh flowing river reminded me of North America. The river was perfect for swimming and we often had the swimming area to ourselves. Be advised that the toilet facilities are pretty rough, so if you’re someone that needs a clean working toilet I suggest you bring your own. All this said, I highly recommend Elm Grove sanctuary and I hope to return soon.
