Unwind in the seclusion of this private and safe bush camping site on the banks of the Wambuul-Macquarie River in the remote Killongbutta valley located half-way between Bathurst and Orange.
It’s a place where time stands still. Enabling you to reconnect with nature as you slow down and embrace the sounds of the river, wildlife and sheoaks when they ‘whisper secrets to the wind’.
Many stories and dreamings have come from this place which guarantees to inspire your imagination as an artist, writer, poet or musician.
You have access to 100 acres of bushland or enjoy a walk along Killongbutta Road which winds its way through spectacular Wiradjuri country where ancient stone quarries, corroboree sites and a warrior’s grave have been found.
Platypus, water dragons and river rats all live in the river. Be prepared to share the site with wombats who have burrowed their homes into the banks.
Road access to site is suitable for 2WD in dry weather. It is a short, steep drop with two tight corners not suitable for large caravans and RVs.
The site has a newly constructed long drop toilet, pets are allowed and firewood can be foraged around the site but best to bring your own to ensure you have enough. Please take all rubbish with you.
Please note: Kids under 12 are free to support young families wanting to experience the bush. Please still add them to the booking as they will not be charged.
What is not allowed: shooters and trappers, illegal fishing, motor bikes, quad bikes, chainsaws, and other noisy machines!
Killongbutta Road runs off Freemantle Road and is 36 kms from Bathurst. It is 40 kilometres from Orange through Gowan Road that joins Lower Lewis Ponds Road.

Beautiful spot! Toilet facilities excellent given it’s a drop with no running water. Lots of wildlife share the area with you, great watching at dusk.

Secluded and peaceful getaway
Tent · With pets
There's no reception so it feels like you're really off the grid. Toilet is well maintained and the chairs around the campsite were a nice bonus.
We did notice a bit of kangaroo poop around the area, but it didn't have any smell and it didn't detract from the experience at all. We actually got a few kangaroos that visited us during the stay too!
Exploring Marje's land was really nice and we loved the freedom it gave our dogs as well.

A magical spot

A truly magical place to slow down and tune into nature. I went solo with my dog to have a moment to reconnect with myself and it was incredible. The resident platypus, Roos and rams were special to be around.
Marje is an amazing host who very kindly lent me a few things to make my stay even more comfortable. Very grateful for her and for sharing the land with us.
Highly recommend if you want to switch off and tune into nature.
