Canter Lakes Farm offers waterfront camping on 47 acres. We are a private horse farm with beautiful swimming lakes and river access on site via “Sand Hill Creek” At canter lakes farm you can explore over 10 acres of water without ever leaving our property, and hike almost 3 miles of manicured trails. The sunset and sunrise is always beautiful here! If you’re an early riser you can witness the magnificent steam rolling in over the lakes, creek and cypress swamp while you sip your coffee at sunrise. Bring your paddle boards and cruise, or warm up with sunny yoga on your private dock. Kayak or John boats can explore the river bends from our property, or even make it out to the big wide cape fear. We are also very close to two public boat ramps suitable for larger boats and jet skis. Holly Shelter boat ramp is literally 2 minutes away, Shelter Creek boat ramp is 10 minutes away. Both ramps have a fishing area and allow kayaks/paddle boards. Fishing is good on our ponds and the river year round, (bass, catfish, crappie, bowfin, gar, etc) in June hundreds of wild blueberry plants you can pick and eat. We also have prickly pear cacti for harvesting which you can cook the fruit and paddles over the fire and enjoy. If our trails aren’t enough and you want more adventure, just two miles away is the Holly Shelter game lands entrance where you’ll find thousands of acres for hunting, biking, hiking or horseback riding. And if you’re craving a beach day, Wrightsville beach is just a 30 minute drive away as well as is downtown Wilmington where you can enjoy walking the riverfront for shopping or dining. Stargazing galore! Surrounding the property is privately owned country land- this is a phenomenal place to be amazed by the stars. Photography lovers will be in heaven from the sunrises and sunsets golden hour is magical here! And with the diverse landscape there’s always something to capture. Tent camping or dry rv camping only at this time. Hot Shower, sink and full size toilet are provided in the bath house. No feeding of the horses allowed, or entering fencing. campers are welcome to visit or partake in farm experience with permission. Live Oak - Riverfront
Great sights and sounds
I appreciate how private this site is! The horses and donkey were so friendly. The ecosystem is flourishing here. I got to hear a barred owl hoot throughout the night for those who love raptors you’d love it here! The bathhouse was nice it was great to have some hot water. The views at sunset were so gorgeous. The directions are a little intimidating but it’s very easy to find your way back if you get lost just use their informative map and you’ll be good to go! Last but not least the bees were so welcoming and friendly. It was so sweet getting greeted by lots of pollinator friends.

Live Oak - Riverfront
Relaxed!
My Wife and I, with our 2 dogs stayed at Live Oak site which is located just at the back. We spent 3nights there. This was Great find as we are checking out Wilmington area but wanted to also camp, and it worked for us going back to the site every night after our outing in wilmington area. Julie was responsive on messagea and Scott met us, as we drove in with their daughter. Very nice couple and responsive to questions. Great place to be able to see sunrise and sunsets. First time ever seeing a burning space junk at night. Took our dogs to the trails and around the farm everyday, very great to be able to just get up and go with them off leash the entire time running around the sand trails. We brought only a couple small wood but they assured there were plenty of down limbs in the forest and she was right, we did not even manage to use our firewood as we found tons of downed truck in the trails which we just brought back to the site. Overall great experience, would def love to try the pond if we will be around the area again. There were noises at night, I believe from their donkey and since it's Hunting season, you can hear what sounded like hunting dogs. From the other far property just echoing. But it did not bother us. We were more curious as to was being chased.

Sunset Cliff Fishing Site
Bluff Side Views
Beautiful bluff campsite. Our family enjoyed exploring the trails and several ponds, fishing, watching the sunrises and sunsets as well as taking the opportunity to experience the horse grooming session with Julie! The site is fairly private but not too far off the beaten path. A nice breeze was constant on top of the hill making for a relaxing and rejuvenating weekend stay. Definitely recommend hiking shoes as the terrain is sandy and there are lots of sand spurs, but with the proper gear it wasn’t an issue. We can’t wait to come back and continue to experience the growth on the farm! Julie and Scott were very kind and responsive!

Fun weekend stay
We had a great weekend at the camper ! We went for our sons birthday and he loved fishing, hanging around the fire pit and just being outside. The area to grill was great and suited our needs. Julie was accessible by message anytime we had questions leading up to our stay, and stayed in contact during our visit. It was such a fun weekend !
