​Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River. Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites. The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped. Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions. There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure. We are pet friendly!

Great spot right on the river. Sites have nice barriers of woods in between and plenty of shade coverage. All-around very easy and laid back experience. Appreciate Nikki sharing her land.

I loved camping here. Billy was amazing at attending to us and making sure all needs were met the best he could. The site was perfect for our family. They offer tubing and have a farm as well with AMAZING ice cream. Highly recommend this location!

Well thought out Camping Experience
This was great. From being greeted and shown to the campsite and all the well thought out sites to the unexpected firefly show that went on all night. I look forward to coming back for a longer visit to get on the water and get to know the area better. Y'all have made a fantastic experience. I appreciate the last minute accommodations.

Great camping spot! We will definitely come back. Tubing was easy. There is a ladder to get in the water. Toilets / tents with portable toilets were conveniently located at almost every site.

I do believe we have found our new spot :) Nikki and her crew were so awesome. I mentioned we were celebrating my husband's birthday and that we were exhausted restaurant managers looking for a quick weekend out. They bumped us up to their new "glamping" site that was literally finished the week before. A huge canvas tent with a queen air mattress and string lights around the site were just perfect to eliminate those few extra steps when setting up. They checked up on us throughout the weekend making sure all was good. We rented a couple of kayaks from them as well and they dropped us about 3 miles up and and we got out just past our campsite. We also went into town and visited a cute little restaurant recommended to us called Rustic Roots. Excellent little farm to table concept with great food and cocktails! Thank you for everything and you'll see us again soon!
