Shady Owl Ranch is a 17 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, guineas, ducks and a turkey named Martha Washington. Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and are currently re-establishing their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range chickens, guineas, ducks, dogs, cats on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Relaxing camping

Loved everything about this place. Calm beautiful and relaxing. Kids love seeing all the chickens, ducks and play with puppies. Fishing was great. Amanda and Chuck are very friendly and hospitable. 10/10

Conifer Cabin

We had a wonderful time at Shady Owl ranch. Conifer Cabin is adorable. The cabin has almost all of the every day conveniences you would have at home, but surrounded by beautiful woods under a moonlit sky. My bestie and I felt like 2 little hobbits on an adventure. Also, the trails are beautiful and you might find a secret gnome. 💜

Peaceful and relaxing

Myself and two friends were on our way to Kentucky but we’re taking our time and stopping at a few disc golf courses along the way. We found a nice course and wanted to stay close for the night. When I found this air bnb I didn’t hesitate to book it, and when we showed up after being in the car for 12 hours it was exactly what we needed, peaceful and relaxing. The beds were comfortable and the lot was spacious. We really enjoyed our stay!

Cozy cabin with a mission!

My husband and I stayed at the Conifer Cabin for a weekend getaway celebrating our 4 year anniversary. It was delightful! The Conifer felt wonderfully secluded. It was such a cozy cabin with the right amount of creature comforts: a comfy bed, plenty of blankets, a small cooking stove, tea kettle, indoor bathroom/composting toilet, small fridge, futon & chair for reading or lounging. I could go on! We loved the farm fresh eggs, walking their beautiful property trails, and the short drive to downtown Mount Vernon. It was everything we had hoped for! Great cabin, cool mission. We would definitely visit again!
