Shady Owl Ranch is a 17 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, guineas, ducks and a turkey named Martha Washington. Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and are currently re-establishing their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range chickens, guineas, ducks, dogs, cats on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Songbird Suite

Such a beautiful and inviting space! The cabin is adorable and very comfy. I loved watching the ducks in the morning. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

Conifer Cabin

The property and cabin were beyond my expectations. It had everything inside and out that we needed. We took our dog and she too had such a good time hiking on the property. Very clean and organized and the host was very friendly. Liked the proximity to other locations for additional hiking. Thanks so much for sharing your property and love all you do for the animals to rehabilitate and find new homes for them. My daughter and will definitely be back in the spring as I rate this camp as a 10 plus.

Conifer Cabin

Our stay at Shady Owl Ranch was perfect! We stayed in the Conifer Cabin. I was able to cook dinner using the fire pit grate and there was even a small range in the kitchen. The location was private and peaceful, and the loft bed was comfy. We enjoyed fishing in the pond and especially visiting the animals. My daughter could have spent a whole week just cuddling the kittens! Thanks for being a great host, Amanda!

Conifer Cabin

Conifer cabin was a lovely place to stay on a secluded part of the property. I enjoyed spending time with the rescued and adoptable animals. Amanda and Chuck are amazing hosts!

My dogs and I had a blast on shady owl ranch. It was the perfect compromise for us all. The enclosed dog park and on-site trials was such a perk! We didn’t feel the desire to leave the property during our entire stay. It was such a peaceful and lovely place. The cabin was extremely cozy and had everything we needed to go “glamping”. It felt very private but not secluded. We loved being able to interact with all the rescue animals as well. Your lifestyle is an inspiration!

Leaving a second review because I cannot say enough at how beautiful and peaceful this camp is with the pretty pond and gentle animals ... and the bees were just beautiful... what a delight to watch them in the wildflowers 🐝
