This elevated shack overlooks a pond and is conveniently located within walking distance of Cowan Lake. The road is a nice place to go for a walk taking in the wildlife, cattle farm, and ending at the lake. This State Park provides a wonderful opportunity to hike, bird watch, and enjoy water recreation. The lake has a 10 hp limit, so it is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, fishing, and sailing.This rustic elevated shack overlooks a catch and release pond and is within walking distance of Cowan Lake. Enjoy a walk down the road where you will see a tunnel of beautiful trees and a cattle farm. At the end of the road, you will find Cowen Lake, and a scenic trail that will take you all the way to the spillway. It is an 18 minute drive to Morgan's Canoe Livery at Little Miami River and Fort Ancient. There are multiple dining options in the area including Spillway Lodge overlooking the spillway and Rod’s Capricorn Inn. There is a composting toilet on site. There are two cots included in the shack, there is floor space for two more people. NO SMOKING IN SHACK

Private and clean off grid camping

Perfect spot for people used to being off grid. Cabin and area were clean, well made, and delightfully private. Absolutely will be returning!

Secluded Shanty

Spring Break at the Shanty

Camping here was awesome! The previous rainy weather made things a little muddy but by the end of our stay out had dried up well! The shanty was cozy and a nice shield from the elements, but it was still pretty cold. Lots of firewood available and a toilet was present in the outhouse which was nice. Very close to the lake and the hiking at the park was really great. There are flush toilets and showers near the RV camping there so it was nice to be and to drive a short way for a shower. Can't wait to come back in the summer to see everything green!

Secluded Shanty

We had so much fun staying here with the dogs for our anniversary! We happened to pick a weekend with less-than-ideal weather, pretty chilly and wet, but that didn't take the charm out of this cute little place. There were homey accoutrements left out for us, like silverware sets and mugs for hot chocolate, along with a little terracotta 'space heater' that helped cozy up the place. Outside, there was a fire pit and some log seating with a picnic table that served us well, and there was a tiny little creek that ran across the site in which the dogs discovered crayfish! So they had all too much fun trying to dig them up all day lol. A chilly muddy weekend, but definitely one for the books - lots of fun memories made while celebrating our little family :-) thanks Phyllis!

Relaxing Reset

I needed one night away to reset and Phyllis’ place was perfect. The set up was very thoughtful. It was cold but I kept warm with a fire and the shanty. I could live in there.

We had a great stay! There were lots of homey touches, including games, cots, cups and utensils, a clay pot heater, some dry firewood under the shanty, and a toilet paper stocked outhouse....what else could you possibly need :)

Nice secluded place

If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place. I honestly heard 2 vehicles all evening long. It also had extras to help with your stay.
