7 Ricks Loft Cabin
Rustic and Interesting Place!
Sam has created a shady and inviting oasis in western Oklahoma just a short distance off I-40 (Route 66). His creative and artistic workmanship is apparent in his photography, his ability to build structures with old found objects and wood, his signage, and his landscaping. Sam has put in a lot of sweat equity, time and love in Sam's Town! He gave me a great tour of the buildings, including stories, history and meanings behind them. I didn't stay in the 7 Ricks since it has steep ladder steps up to the sleeping loft. I just had a shoulder replacement 12 weeks ago and expressed my concern to him about them. He was so kind and immediately offered up the One Room Schoolhouse. It was comfortable and charming! Pilgrim the turkey kept me company during my wanderings around the property. I was enchanted by his place and look forward to staying again if I ever travel through that area again! Thank you Sam for sharing your special place with me!

Writers Cabin & Campsite
Unique and tranquil setting
Sam and his turkey graciously greeted me when I arrived. He was a wonderful host and made sure I had everything I needed for my stay. He even switched me to another available spot that worked better for me.
Once I was settled in he asked if I wanted him to start a campfire in a large common area and offered to give me a tour of his place if I liked. I took him up on his offer and thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the unique and thoughtfully crafted areas he created. I also had a wonderful time talking to Sam later around the campfire.
His place runs right along route 66 which was perfect for my cross country trip. The bed I slept in was very comfortable. I would say the overall the accommodations are a little more rustic, some sleeping areas even have dirt floors, but that’s part of charm. Don’t expect a hotel type stay but there are conveniences like a toilet, shower and place to wash some clothes if you need to. I really enjoyed my overnight stay and I’m looking forward to hopefully a longer visit next time.

One Room School House
We had a wonderful stay here. Sam's Town is an absolute delight, and the one-room schoolhouse we stayed in was incredible. Samuel was warm, welcoming, and responsive. And he built much of Sam's Town himself! There's a fantastic little byo drink wine bar made from a former chicken coop, a turkey and chicken roaming the grounds, tent sites with electricity, places for campfires and hanging out outdoors, and the schoolhouse was really homey and spacious. Loved it all and want to go back!

One Room School House
Fabulous handmade place
We were amazed during our stay in the one-room schoolhouse. Sam gave us the tour of the collection of buildings he has made, moved, or repaired. This is not a high-end place with lots of amenities, but a great bed, kitchen, bath, place for campfires, spots for bikers, a display of some of Sam’s photos, a log cabin, a “wine bar” with music, and a turkey and chicken, it couldn’t have been better for us. If cruising Route 66, or looking for idiosyncratic places, Sam’s Town is worth a stay.
