The Cardinals Nest, which is the first cabin on the right if you follow the directions from the host, has a propane heater, a private indoors portable toilet, kitchenware, a private outdoors firepit, a picnic bench, but no electricity. A battery-powered lantern provided. There is a bathroom with hot shower in the main house.

The land is beautiful, as is the night sky. You can hear the rushing sound of the river around 2-3am when the traffic dies down (it's on a busy/ loud country road). The cabin is cute and cozy. I selected this location largely for access to water - both swimming in the river & the hot tub in the listing. The river is *very* shallow, not suitable for swimming. And the hot tub was out of service when I stayed, so you might want to inquire beforehand.

Everything from the scenic drive to walking up to the cabin was beautiful! Sitting on rolling hills on a bank of the Maitland River this private cabin was beyond what we expected even in the winter it was a great adventure ending with a hot tub in the snow ! Scenic walking trails and the sound of the rushing River made it feel we were in the middle of the wilderness, We will definitely be returning to the cardinals nest as soon as we can !

We drove up from Hamilton and this site was 100% worth the drive. A secluded and beautiful camp site set back on their land with a gorgeous, large canvas tent.
The highlights are many:
- 8.5/10 for camping sleeps thanks to the well-cushioned and setup bed (styrofoam, pallets, and then the mattress) and quickly warming tent even from just our body heat. Can only imagine how toasty it could get with actual heating inside
- the extra details inside the tent with the two cushioned seats, cute chairs & table, simple utensils & dishes, washing supplies, a small charcoal bbq
- the fairy lights were both cute and functional! They lit the interior of the tent and the entrance with ease
- the nearby river is gorgeous and adds so much atmosphere while walking the grounds
- clear and quick communication (and so helpful!) when you message the hosts; they are on it!
- the wildlife is plentiful and the landscape picturesque. Enjoy it.
- though we didn’t use it, the swimming hole on the grounds is cute and cosy
Any bits we could ask for would be cherries on the cake. Keep in mind that the port-a-potty is bit of a walk away from the site, so keep that in mind for your needs.
All-I’m-all, we loved our stay and would love to come again!

Wonderful little site, right on the bank of the river. Quiet. Peaceful. Lots of wild life to see.
