This campsite is mostly flat with the Rocky River running through my property, surrounded with river gum trees and plenty of bird life including kookaburras and Corellas.
The property is fairly central to the localities of Laura, Stone Hut, Wirrabara, Melrose and Wilmington. Port Pirie is about 50km away if you need any major conveniences or supplies.
You will need to be self-contained with your own camping toilet/shower and drinking water supply. We grow veggies on our land - if you would like some for your campfire dinner please ask me. Campfires are allowed.
Dogs welcome.
The site is large and plenty of space to run around which the dog loved.
We found firewood in the creek which made for great campfires
Local shop and pub few minutes down the road.
The noise from passing traffic on the long weekend was more than I expected but not loud or late into the night
Paul stopped by and was happy to help and give advise on local activities
A good trip
We had a wonderful experience at Paul's property. We were surprised to find that the river was dry, but that ended up being fantastic because the kids could walk through the rocky river bed and it was the perfect location for an easter egg hunt! Paul was very generous, bringing us some fresh produce from his farm. He also set up a camp toilet in an old furnace structure on the property, which was private and clean. The bike track goes right past the property so you can ride to Wirrabara Forest (we will do that next time), and it's a relaxing spot with good access to Melrose for more adventures. We couldn't have a campfire because of fire restrictions, but enjoyed the stars at night. The road is a bit noisy so bring earplugs for a good sleep - but don't miss the early morning bird chorus - it's beautiful :)
The property is not how the pictures protray..the property is quite dry now no lush grass and the river has been dry for some time..as it is in a Gully very cold overnite for May
