Best in Texas: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2024.
Where the short-grass prairie drops into the Red River Valley, the 4R Ranch—with its magnificent vistas and rocky terrain—is perfectly suited for growing grapes. Patriarch W.C. Roper encouraged his family of sixth-generation Texans to share the beauty of this extraordinary place with others; and so it was love of this man and love of the land that inspired 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Chinquapin oaks, white-tailed deer, the endangered black-capped vireo, and the occasional Rio Grande turkey inhabit this incredible property. Powered by sun, earth and wind, 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery calls us all to slow our pace, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of wine in the magnificent Red River Valley.
Hidden amount the Texas plains and the occasional wind mill farm, once you crest the hill you find 4R Ranch Winery hidden. This location is very nice. Spaces are reasonably spaced out providing a sense of privacy. Very clear sky to watch the stars and every spot had a fire ring.
Piece of advice: READ the pdf on their website. It's a very well written instruction guide on the land, how to navigate to your spot and the property. It describes all of the spots to help determine which one is best to reserve.
I will be attending this location again for sure.
Cool place. Not much service for the phone and wifi connection is hopeful at 8&9, depending on your phone. Download the google maps map do the area at home, from Hwy 82, for ease of mind. There were no other tent campers there as it was a really cold two days during the week, but I imagine this place would be hoppin’ in the three seasons. No clue on the bathrooms as it was too cold for that endeavor, for us.
We did find trash in some locations, wish people would be more careful and did not look the property staff was checking enough the camp sites for trash.
The contact did not reply to our questions prior to arrival which cause us to have to change the camp site last minute, I think we ended up paying more.
Positive speaking the location was great, free fire word is also a nice add on.
A perfect, secluded, well-taken-care-of property not far from the metroplex...WHAT A FIND! Walt and the 4R team have created an amazing space for us normies to come and relax! I stayed at Camp Site 7, but will return to try 8, one of the dispersed spots, and the VIP area! The firewood, toilet, and shower facilities are a huge plus. I was shocked to be the only camper out there last Friday Night. The property is an active winery with a tasting room, I will definitely be back to try some of their wines and a charcuterie board!
Awesome place to camp! This was our groups second time and it was the perfect location for a mix of rooftop tents and hammocks. It’s spacious area so you can really spread out on the land. The free firewood and having a winery nearby was a great added perk too!
