Heath Canyon Ranch is at the end of FM 2627 across the Rio Grande River from the ghost town of La Linda, Mexico. This Chihuahuan Desert Retreat is 67 miles south of Marathon next to Black Gap Game Preserve. It is a take out spot for folks canoeing Boquillas Canyon or a put in spot for the Lower Canyon trip.

Heath Canyon Ranch
Park-like serenity!!
We absolutely loved camping at Heath Canyon. The property was amazing. It had atunning views of mountains you find in Big Bend & there were also stunning views looking down on the Rio Grande. This is a do-it-yourself remote location so bring everything you need, but the reward is well worth it. There is an old Jeep 4x4 road at the top of the airstrip you can drive or hike to get down near to the riverbed that made for great exploring. The mountains also had several large caves that we were able to explore. All around this was one of the best camping spots we’ve found in the Southwest. We are definitely coming back!!

We’re already looking forward to our next visit—definitely a place we’ll return to!

Peace and quiet
We stayed three nights 10/17-10/19. Remote, quiet, peaceful. There are seemingly several camping options but for us we stayed in a section just up from the river bank which was mostly concrete and some gravel. These sites were flat; have access to 50 amp service but we didn’t need it so did not use it. There are no other services there though other reviewers report a solar shower and toilets at the main home complex. We also didn’t use those facilities. The site is a takeout spot for canoe and kayak trips that begin up river so we saw two crews take out while we were there. These were the only folks we saw in our three days and nights. We put our kayak in the river but there was not enough water for us to paddle around. When the river is up, this would be ideal for kayaking around the Camp site. The beach area is great. Take all the food and water and power that you need because there is nothing around. We enjoyed the sunrises sunsets and the dark skies all to ourselves. There is a Mexican ghost town across the river. The bridge to La Linda is still standing but it is barricaded so no traffic of any kind can cross. We would definitely stay at Heath Canyon Ranch again

Heath Canyon RV Site
Russell was kind enough to call me beforehand and explain what I needed to do since he was not going to be able to be on site when I arrived. Which I’m glad because you do not have service once you are there although they do have WiFi near the main house. The area is very secluded. The rio was really low so we did not get in but we enjoyed exploring around and our pups loved being able to run around a bit. Be prepared as the nearest store is about an hour away. The views are breathtaking. We would definitely stay again if passing through.
