Formerly Mountain Trails Lodge, our property features stunning sunrises and sunsets, wildlife watching, and amazing dark skies viewing. Our on-site Cafe serves breakfast and lunch daily from 8am to 2pm and currently is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 8am to 8 pm, serving dinner those evenings. We offer tent campsites and one RV site with electricity and water available, along with access to a restroom with shower and amenities, our pavilion with a gas grill and grilling tools, a fridge, ice, and picnic tables. We also have cabins for rent, visible on our website mountainviewlodgetx.com. We have seven acres convenient to many attractions, including McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Davis Mountains State Park, the Chihuahuan Desert Research Center, a 75-mile scenic loop, and more. Marfa, TX, a widely recognized community of world-renowned artists, is just a 20-minute drive away. Alpine, TX is also only 20 minutes away with more amenities and medical care facilities. We are located in a Dark Skies Reserve with spectacular night viewing of stars and the Milky Way, even without a telescope!

RVers Be Sure You Get Site You Want
The staff were friendly, welcoming & helpful. When we arrived, we were directed to drive our Sprinter-based RV into a plug-in site that looked nothing like the one described on the HipCamp site. It had a mobile home close by on both sides where people were living with dogs. There was no view towards the mountain & town. I felt really disappointed. The plug-in didn’t test properly so Will offered to guide us to their other plug-in site. When we got there, we realized that this was the tent site with a plug-in that we had paid for. It had a view towards town & the mountain plus it was blessedly quiet! Our only companions were deer grazing among the prickly pear cactus and someone car camping in the other tent site. We had a pleasant stay. We didn’t eat in the cafe but it seemed popular. I’ll upload a few pictures of both sites. We would stay here again in the tent site w plug-in. We would not stay in the first site we were directed to. I gave feedback to staff, suggesting that they add the 2nd RV spot to their HipCamp offerings. That way RVers could choose the one they prefer.

Great spot to camp in my car. I loved being able to walk into the main area to use the bathroom in the middle of the night! What a blessing! The site itself was perfect, it overlooked the desert and I could clearly see the milky way. It was beautiful! In the morning I was able to leave my freezing car and walk over for a wonderful breakfast and hot coffee in the cafe. I would definitely stay again.

Amazing dark sky!!
The dark skies were amazing!! The town of fort Davis nestled just below the site was super cute with several restaurants and bars!! Camp area was open with several flat sandy areas to place your tent. Only one picnic table for 2 sites though, another table would be nice. Bathroom and shower facilities we're very clean and nice. Fresh clean towels and a variety of soaps and shampoos we're made available too . There's a small cafe for breakfast or lunch. Super nice people!! Loved out stay there!!

Everything about this experience was GREAT except for 2 things. 1: the metal door to get into the back yard to get into the house is very difficult to figure out how to open and makes a TERRIBLE high pitch screeching noise which almost gave me a headache and 2: there were dogs barking all. Night. Long. I understand the host can’t control this but be weary if you are a light sleeper like me. The stars at night made up for these two things but I just needed to leave an honest review for the people.
