Leave it to your kids’ imagination when it comes to this site. Rocky outcrops and magical valleys. It’s a proper fairytale of a site.

What makes the perfect campsite? A peaceful farmland location? A nearby beach? Or friendly folk who are happy with campfires, children and dogs?

Gwerniago is all of these things and a lot more besides. Set in the pretty Dovey Valley, its large field is divided by the natural boundaries of oak and rocky outcrop. The family have farmed here for three generations now, so camping here gives you a great insight into a farmer’s working life. Arrive at tea time and you might see farmer Trevor’s sheepdog herding his flock back out to their field, with Trevor opening gates ahead of them on his quad bike.

The owner's will lend you baskets for campfires, which dot the site. As wisps of smoke drift skywards and marshmallows bubble in the heat, the hustle and bustle of urban life seems a long way away; it’d be all too easy to spend several days here without feeling the need to leave the site at all.

But that might be a shame, as the beach and little harbour at Aberdyfi is less than a 15-minute drive north, and there’s also Borth to the south. There’s even a family-friendly pub in the village, within walking distance down a quiet lane.

You can’t really ask for much more than that, can you?

Grass pitches with clear views of the countryside surrounded by hills and woodland and sheep! Located on a working farm. Pitches are mostly flat some have a slight slope. Parking by tent.  Camp fires are allowed; when possible please bring your own fire basket.  Logs can be purchased from reception. Excellent site
Tent · With kids
We loved this site - possibly the best we have stayed on in a very long time. Good, well thought out and maintained facilities, busy but not crowded (even in the summer holidays), really great for children, but a nice mix on the site generally. You can walk to a very nice pub and are within easy reach of lots of lovely places. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Lovely family friendly site
Tent · With kids
We loved the site. Clean facilities, beautiful views. It’s just the right balance with everything you need but otherwise it’s a back to basics feel. My kids quickly made friends and were off playing for hours. I think their favourite bit was the rope swing. I loved that even at peak season there is plenty of space and it doesn’t feel crowded.

Gwerniago campsite is located in the heartland of Mid Wales, at the most southern point of the Snowdonia National Park. Gwerniago is a family run working farm run by a Welsh speaking family. The campsite is situated on the edge of Pennal village in the beautiful unspoilt Dyfi (Dovey) Valley. Near beaches and mountains.
Nearby attractions
Situated near the market town of Machynlleth, where a market is still held every Wednesday, Gwerniago is in a suberb location for walking and cycling. Within a 10 minute drive of Dyfi Bike Park, or 20 minutes from the popular seaside village of Aberdyfi, home to a sandy beach and seaside shops. North of Pennal, CAT (the Centre for Alternative Technology) (01654 705950) is popular with all ages. There’s an RSPB reserve at Eglwysfach, where you can see red kites and peregrine falcons.
Food and drink
The Riverside, which is within walking distance of the campsite, is a very popular local restaurant. There are plenty of Cafe's in the nearby town of Machynlleth if you fancy grabbing a bite to each for lunch.
