Slow Boat Farm started as a 10-cow dairy in the 1930s. The modified farmhouse still stands and the base of the silo is now a fire ring. The Lower Columbia Kayak Roundup (LoCo) was hosted from 2007 through 2011. There have only been four owners of the property. Learn more about this land: Wide open spaces, kayak launch, and small-scale farming form a unique culture at Slow Boat Farm. Camp on Puget Island, in a peaceful, pastoral setting with views of the hills and cliffs on both sides of the river. Fire ring is available year round regardless of fire bans. A large grassy field offers ample space, and a private kayak launch is a short walk through a cottonwood forest. You will enjoy a private camp spot with shade or open space, where we can accommodate multiple vehicles. Slow Boat Farm is a large meadow, five acres of grass and wide open spaces to view the gorge cliffs. Slow Boat Farm is a small-scale working farm, specializing in garlic, onions, raspberries, some garden produce, and a big hay field - and like all of Puget Island, is green and productive due to wet winter conditions. Camping is available May through October.

Slow Boat Farm

We really enjoyed our stay at Slow Boat Farm! The pasture setting was beautiful, such a nice environment to relax it. Brad greeted us and gave us an overview. Lisa came out latter to say hello, we really liked meeting our hosts and having a short chat, we had the sense they were there if we needed anything, but still had privacy of an entire pasture. It was nice to have a (compost) toilet and hot shower available, in a cute outbuilding, complete with fresh flowers. Would definitely recommend it and stay again if we’re ever in the area.

Slow Boat Farm

First time using HipCamp and great experience overall! We brought a small tear drop camper and there was plenty of room. The landscape was beautiful and so peaceful/ quiet in the morning. Brad and Lisa were lovely, and had excellent recommendations for things to do in the area.

Slow Boat Farm

Brad and Lisa were super kind in accommodating my daughter and me at the last moment. Their farmland was impeccably tidy, with fresh-cut flowers in the toilet room, freshly mowed grass, and a clean picnic table for our use. We loved exploring the areas they suggested for fun water access and enjoyed several hours splashing in the cool Columbia River and watching the barges go by. We had a beach spot all to ourselves (within a mile of their property). Brad delivered a bag of farm-fresh apples, garlic, and onion upon our departure. It was the perfect, quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of Portland.

There was a gorgeous sunset as we ate dinner at the picnic table. We sat up our tents among some trees that were also perfect for our hammock.

Such a beautiful property and lovely hosts. We had a wonderful night watching the sunset, playing cards with our kids and watching deer wander through the property. We've already told people about Slow Boat Farm and can't wait to come back next summer.

Slow Boat Farm

Island farm fun

What a great spot and such kind hosts! It was a total chill farm experience, with freshly grown garlic, berries, and cows. We had fun putting in kayaks on the slough across the road and swimming at a great beach a short drive away. The wind was intense our weekend, but it mostly just added to the experience. We enjoyed the luxury of a hot shower. Well worth the reasonable cost and the drive. Brad and Lisa are charming.
