Hike-in sites
Hike-in to some sites at this Hipcamp.
At Amnicon you'll find the perfect blend of far-enough-away and easy-enough-to-get-to. We're located at the end of a 5-mile-long dirt road, just 30 minutes outside of Duluth, MN. Our site features 600 acres of protected forests along the Amnicon River on the South Shore of Lake Superior. The wildlife is abundant, and we even have an eagle's nest on site. You'll enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the waves on Lake Superior, and waking up to 118+ species of birdsongs. We have an enormous sandy beach on Lake Superior that's a great place to watch the sunset and have a SMALL campfire. You're going to love it here.
Camping at this site offers a mixed experience. Many visitors appreciate the beautiful setting and proximity to a private beach on Lake Superior, noting the peace and seclusion after a short hike from the parking area. However, the trail's maintenance can be lacking, leading to muddy conditions after rainfall, and the campsites themselves may be damp or marshy. Facilities like the showers and lodge are generally clean, but some guests have faced challenges with bugs and navigating the trail with gear.
Awesome secluded camp sites. A nice little walk to the south shore with a semi-private beach was such a nice perk! The walk to and from the camp site to the parking area can get long if you have a ton of stuff so pack light and snag a wagon!
We loved the whole experience at Camp Amnicon. We used the carts to load our supplies and hike to the Balsam site. They worked great, trail was well maintained. The facilities were open for bathroom/shower use. Staff was unintrusive but friendly. The hiking trails and access to the lakeshore was great. We truly have no complaints. It was a great weekend, and we will definitely be back :)
Such an amazing place to camp! The site was very nice and the trail to the site was marked nice! We highly recommend if you are interested in a hike in site! It’s about a mile, but definitely worth it!
I like the walk in it took about 10 - 15mins listening to the birds was nice. The beach was fantastic being able to walk along it, listening to the waves of the lake. Meeting other people made it worth it
The proximity to Lake Superior is the game changer for this property. It is such a privilege to be able to walk for just 2 minutes from the Wall Tents and be down on a 1/2 mile long private beach on Lake Superior. Absolutely stunning.
