Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
At Amnicon you'll find the perfect blend of far-enough-away and easy-enough-to-get-to. We're located at the end of a 5-mile-long dirt road, just 30 minutes outside of Duluth, MN. Our site features 600 acres of protected forests along the Amnicon River on the South Shore of Lake Superior. The wildlife is abundant, and we even have an eagle's nest on site. You'll enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the waves on Lake Superior, and waking up to 118+ species of birdsongs. We have an enormous sandy beach on Lake Superior that's a great place to watch the sunset and have a SMALL campfire. You're going to love it here.

Balsam (Hike-In Site)
I enjoyed my time at my hike in tent site. It was a beautiful secluded area, hearing the waves from the shore of lake superior and the wind through the trees. The only downside was the rain and mosquitoes that brings. Nothing that the host could change.

Glamping Wall-Tent (#1)
Mud & Bees & Showers Oh My
I arrived to camp late (unforeseen circumstances on my end) and was excited up until I saw how much mud and water I was going to have to hike through. Nevertheless I made it to my tent and as soon as I entered I was the target of two angry yellow jackets. I realize its nature but wasn’t expecting two nests inside the tent with live bees hiding in them. Anytime I turned a light on it made me a shining beacon for them to attack. I left before 0800 the next morning and again was unimpressed with the amount of mud and water I had to trek through. Fortunately I was able to use the shower before leaving due to the amount of mud that was caked on my lower half. Ultimately I have mixed feelings but do believe it’s nice place for families and groups to spend time outside together.

Hazel (walk-in site)
Great organization and communication about the site. We had the Hazel camp site. Unfortunately, it was very wet and soggy all over. I would defiantly recommend the Amnicon camp to anybody, but I would avoid the Hazel campsite next time

Glamping Wall-Tent (#2)
Rented a tent in azidokan village
Tent was big and spacious. Didn’t like the bottom bunk beds But it’s a very good spot for 4 people Team had carts to wheel our stuff to the tent. One hiccup was the rains and muddy swampy walk to the tent! Was difficult to walk through slushy pathway

Balsam (Hike-In Site)
The Balsam campsite was beautiful, peaceful, secluded, and just a short walk to Lake Superior. The staff at the Camp Amnicon were all very friendly and helpful and provided a cart for us to haul our stuff out to the campsite. I would definitely recommend this place, especially as a great alternative to crowded, sometimes noisy campgrounds. :)

Hazel (walk-in site)
Campsite was marshy
This was a tough review to write. On a positive note the campground was very nice with a shared facility for getting water, firewood, and friendly staff. Trails were well marked with lots of information and great privacy. The problem was that the campsite itself was extremely marshy. There was an informational placard about how the site had a lot of clay that retained water and if you look in the photos you'll see that the tent pads are actually raised up to keep them dry. This had the knock on effect of there being a ton of ticks. This might be a good site during drier parts of the season but it was really unpleasant in May. Compared to the rest of the campground the site was buggy and wet. If we were going to stay here again we'd stay at the campsite nearer the water or one of the cabins.
