Gunflint Trail Yurt on Lake
June Camping with Dogs!
What a fun and unique experience! If you are looking for a hear no one, see no one camping experience? But also want to be close to fun, modern, and trendy bars, restaurants, and attractions then this is the place!
Total remote fully set up campsite! The host has created welcoming environment that is "move in ready". We unpacked our sleeping arrangements and we were ready to camp! We did sight seeing while driving up the coast and got in late. We did not have a worry about our accommodations. It was cleaned and stocked to welcome us. With an interior muck stove and exterior fire pit we were warm comfortable on the cool days.
Also the NICEST outhouse I have ever used on a campsite. Great flow and use of space on site. Very well set up .
Great views from the exterior deck eating area. Such a cool space!
The Urt was easily big enough for two adults and our two large dogs with their oversized sleeping beds.
We did not have our kids with us, but I would feel safe taking small children there. The lake is down a path and the surrounding wooded elevation would make it difficult for them to wonder off.
We had zero negative interactions with wildlife, but we were diligent about keeping space clean and food locked away.
100/10 recommend. Would 1000% book again!
Gunflint Trail Yurt on Lake
This is a beautiful, private and peaceful spot. The Yurt worked out great -- plenty of space for my daughter and I. The only issue is the road coming in an driveway. There had been a lot of rain and the road was in rough shape. If you have a car that is low to the ground, you'll need to drive very slowly to keep from bottoming out.

Beautiful spot overlooking a remote inland lake, and we were able to take advantage of the canoe before the rains came. It rained hard for fifteen hours and while there was a bit of a leak through the doorframe, we stayed dry and comfortable. Woodstove in the yurt was not usable but it wasn't cold enough to warrant a fire and Elizabeth assures me that it will be repaired shortly. We were quite happy cooking outside.

Cozy and quiet, I recommend!
Camping here was a great experience! I'd totally do it again. It's secluded and quiet, yet not too far from Grand Marais or a little mercantile at the intersection of Pine Mountain Road and Devil Track Road to pick up any last minute needs. It's about 40 min drive (far fewer miles) from the Eagle Mountain trail head, and there's tons of hiking and fishing options closer. And it was SoOoOo nice to just park and unpack; and not have to do any work setting up a shelter!
We had 3 people in the yurt and had plenty of space, although we were outside most of the time. It wasn't that cold at night outside (40's?? not sure), but the yurt has some insulation so it was the perfect sleeping temperature with absolutely no need to fire up the wood burning stove. The outdoor eating/cooking area was nice and there were a few options to hang out hammocks.
