The night sky is incredible. See Lehman Caves on a ranger led tour. Hike the trails, but be aware of the elevation - 10,000+ feet - take your time and if it starts getting to you go back.
High altitude so chilly at night even in the summer.
Great camping experience. The campground is within walking distance to several trails, including a trail that meets up with the Wheeler Peak Summit trail, which has a trail head with a parking lot away from the campgrounds. If you haven't already read it somewhere else, Wheeler Peak is the second highest peak in Nevada.
My stay was at the end of September and the fall colors were spectacular! Lots of tree coverage and a few of the campsites are right next to a stream. The campground is around 10000 ft, so it is a lot cooler at night.
It's first come-first served, but I had no trouble picking a camp site at 4PM on a Friday.
