Bayou Bourbeaux

7 sites · RVs, Tents11 acres · Clarence, LA
Located about 15 minutes from downtown Natchitoches on a quiet street that parallels the bayou Bourbeaux. Giant ancient oaks tower over the property. There are old pecan trees and lots and lots of flat green grass. You can put your tent or rv/trailer/camper/car/boat/atv basically anywhere you’d like. There’s a central fire pit in the grassy area and a propane one on the porch. We have hammocks and giant connect 4, jenga, tic tac toe and cornhole. There’s also an unheated seasonal above ground pool you can use with a waiver. Tents: There is no outhouse but for an extra charge we can provide a porta potty and potty tent as well as a water pump for water. Breakfast is included in the price. RVs: we prefer you be self contained but if you need electric you can park on our driveway and use the outlet on the side of the house. We can fill you up with water from the hose if needed. Breakfast is included at the bed and breakfast! Lodging: this is also a full service bed and breakfast. We are the PERFECT spot to host family reunions. Families can camp and use the bed and breakfast for the weekend with plenty of space for everyone! We also host small weddings! www.bayoubourbeauxbnb.com It’s quiet. Birds are always chirping. You can watch the beautiful sunrise each morning from the rocking chairs on the old farmhouse porch. Have s’mores and watch the stars at night. Explore Natchitoches and the many nearby lakes during the day. We can also rent you kayaks. If you’d like additional meals beyond breakfast, we can serve you (additional cost). We are also a tea room. If you’d like a traditional English tea under the oaks, let us know!

Overview

About

Take a journey back into the past when you visit the plantation house and grounds at this national historical park. Since this plantation spent eight generations, everything is beautifully preserved. You can learn a lot about how farms were run over the last couple of centuries and see the types of equipment used. Don't miss the fully restored cottages to get a glimpse of life in the 19th century. Watch out for the fire ant hills that pop up from time to time on the property.

Getting here requires a bit of sleuthing, as the signage is minimal, but it's all free (yes, even the parking). Time your visit for one of the two tours inside the big house that are offered daily. (You can enter other buildings, including the slave quarters, at any time the park's open.) Yes, there's cell service—and even better, you can download a self-guided tour on your phone.

If you're exploring other Creole homes and plantations in the area, check out the Hipcamps north toward Shreveport and south toward Lafayette. There are plenty of spots to pitch a tent or hook up an RV alongside a river or nestled in beautiful pine woods.
