About

Evangola’s main attraction is its arc-shaped shoreline and low one-mile-long, cliff-lined, natural sand beach on Lake Erie. As well as swimming in the lake, you can hike or bike along nature trails while looking out for wildlife such as white-tailed deer, raccoons, turkeys, and red-tailed hawks. The disc golf course provides a scenic yet competitive way to explore the park and large boats use this waterway to head to the Atlantic or to the other Great Lakes. Open from mid-April to late October, Evangola State Park Campground has 80 sites spread out in a wooded area.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Evangola is a very popular state park so it’s a good idea to make bookings as far in advance as possible.
Bookings can easily be secured online or by phone, up to nine months in advance.
Same-day reservations are permitted only until 3pm. No walk-ins are allowed.

When to go

While camping is only available seasonally, the park is open year-round. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for cooling off in the lake, but it can get very busy, especially on weekends and holidays. If you enjoy cold weather, you can enjoy various activities in winter, such as ice-fishing and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing along the park's three-mile trail.

Know before you go

Guarded swimming is available from Memorial through Labor Day.
You’ll find plenty of grocery stores within a 10-minute drive.
Up to two dogs are permitted in each campsite, but must be on a leash of no more than six feet and have proof of rabies inoculation.
