West Lake Crockett Campground

If Black Creek Lake (45-acres) is a too small for you, and Coffee Mill Lake is a little on the large size (750-acres), then West Lake should be just right (450-acres).

Who’s counting anyways, we’re in the great outdoors! Located on the northwest shore of Lake Crockett, campground amenities include drinking water and restrooms. Visitors can fish from the shore, and take to one of many hiking trails accessible from the campground. Catch a few fish, hike a trail, and repeat. Sounds like a pretty awesome plan, doesn’t it?

Your guide to camping in West Lake Crockett Campground

Overview

Boating

There are three distinct lakes that allow motorized boats: Black Creek Lake, Coffee Mill Lake, and East Lake Crockett. There are also countless ponds to explore by nonmotorized boat, as well!

Fishing

Cast a line at any of the lakes or ponds within the Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands. Find peace at Clear Lake, West Lake Crockett, East Lake Crockett, Coffee Mill Lake, or Black Creek Lake; the last three allow motorized boats, as well!

Hiking

A complex network of loops throughout the Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands make the park a premier hiking destination in North Texas. Simply begin at the TADRA Point campground to access 75 miles of trails that wind through ancient oaks and tall grass prairies. The five distinct loop trails, which vary in difficulty, are perfect for a long hike or a quick trail run.

Horseback riding

Equestrian enthusiasts come from all over the country to experience the 75 mile network of trails within the Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands. Find the trailhead at the TADRA Point campground, which is the perfect spot to rest after a long, hot day on the trails!

Paddling

The shallow waters of Black Creek Lake are great for beginners, but don’t hesitate to explore Coffee Mill Lake or East Lake Crockett as well. Remember to bring your own floatation device, because there are no rentals available within the park.

Swimming

The sandy shorelines at Black Creek Lake make it the ultimate swimming spot within the Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands. The water is normally shallow, too, so it’s great for lounging around or taking the kids for a dip! Just be aware that there are no lifeguards on duty and swimming is at your own risk.

Wildlife watching

The diverse ecosystem of the grasslands provide a unique wildlife watching opportunity for visitors of all ages. Birdwatchers will especially enjoy the Caddo and LBJ National Grasslands area because it falls directly in the migratory path of dozens of avian species.
