Eagle Ford Campground

With 81 campsites, Eagle Ford can feel a little tight.

This is a camping area not a sport utility vehicle, just to make sure we’re all the same page here. Despite close quarters there’s water, electric, and sewer hookups for all, along with the standard fire rings and picnic tables. ###

Your guide to camping in Eagle Ford Campground

Overview

Biking

Cedar Hill State Park offers some of the best biking trails in North Texas. The DORBA trail, named after the Dallas Off Road Biking Association, covers 1,200 acres and is broken up into 3 short, medium and long distance loops. To get a sense of what it's like to bike on the DORBA trail, check out these Youtube videos.

Boating

Joe Pool Lake is definitely the main attraction at Cedar Hill State Park. At 7,500 acres, there's plenty of room to explore and not feel surrounded by your boating neighbors. Boats can launch from either of the two boat ramps available. Click here for current lake levels.

Fishing

Rent a boat or bring your own and try your hand at catching some of the white crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, or sunfish that are stocked in Cedar Hill State Park's Joe Pool Lake. Or throw your line in while you relax on one of the shaded benches on the fishing barge in the marina. This website offers a weekly fishing report for the lake.

Hiking

There are four trails in Cedar Hill State Park, three of which are reserved for hikers. To get a nice view of Joe Pool Lake, hike through the woods of the Overlook Trail until you come to the lookout at the top of the hill. The complete list of trails can be found here.

Paddling

Take in Cedar Hill State Park from the shoreline and rent a kayak or canoe at one of the two rental spots at Joe Pool Lake.

Swimming

If you're looking to escape the Dallas summer heat, dive into Joe Pool Lake in Cedar Hill State Park. Bring fixins for the grill and enjoy lunch by the water at one of the picnic tables that surround the lake.

Wildlife watching

Cedar Hill State Park is a bird watcher's paradise with almost 200 different species of birds living in the park. Migratory birds love to stop over here because of Cedar Hill State Park's grasslands and forest, and the very popular painted bunting is usually found in the park in the summer months.
