Beautiful cluster of Maple trees in the middle of the Texas hill country. Great hikes during the fall to see the color changes but this is also the busiest time of year at the park so it may be crowded. Good facilities and friendly staff.
We got ticketed for open container. No booze/beer. The ticket was $500.
The maples seem to only be in "full swing" for like a week, but the campgrounds are gorgeous with or without those firey colors. Lots of great hiking, cool streams, and dog-friendly!
Quiet place to enjoy a couple million stars overnight and some scenic day hiking. Busy during peak season but easy to avoid people during the off-season!
Camping is great here. Only 30 campsites with water and electric hookups, which means that there is plenty of privacy and not a lot of noise around your own camp. Site 16 is the most private but you get all the sun you could ever want in the afternoons which would be very warm in the summer. Site 17 is probably the best due to the abundance of shade you get. No matter when you camp, reserve early!
Fall camping here is amazing because of the color of the Maple Trees. But you have to reserve way in advance.
