Between the famed Bryce Canyon and Staircase Escalante National Monument, Kodachrome Basin Campground is one of Utah’s best kept secrets.

Named for the pioneering color film, the monolithic spires all over this state park showcase layers of multi-tonal geologic time and even change color constantly as the sun rises and sets! The sites here don’t always have much tree coverage, but the more bare spots have the advantage of immediate spire views when you unzip that tent door. Kodachrome is a great place to rest up before viewing the Grand Canyon’s north rim or Grosvenor Arch (one of Utah’s best double sandstone arches, located ten miles southeast of the park). An old ghost town General Store is available for any camping supplies you forgot, and there are loads of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. By the end of your stay, you’ll be singing “Mama don’t take my Kodachrome away"!

Great location for campers who want the beauty but not the crowds and chaos of Bryce. It was a very easy drive to Bryce when we wanted to visit/hike here, but lots of other hiking options around. The bathrooms are lovely and heated, and the showers are beautiful. Our only issue was the "meat bees/wasps". That's not the camps fault, just a fact of life some times of the year. Best to be prepared with traps (none of the good ones were available locally).

We stayed here to visit Bryce Canyon. Its a nice, smallish campground with great facilities - showers, etc. We were in a tent and it worked fine. Some good hikes right from the campground, and stunning Utah scenery.

Weather is unpredictable here and changes fast, come prepared for all seasons no matter when you visit!

There in mid-September 2017. Clean, level, quiet and relatively private sites. Clean, well-maintained pit toilets. Between Bryce Canyon NP and Capitol Reef NP. Along Cottonwood Canyon Road which is definitely worth the ride. Great park!

Fantastic staff and fabulous showers! A bit off the main path, but oh-so-worth it.
