Camp beside boulders, waterfalls, and rainforest in tropical Northern Queensland.
Little Babinda is south of Cairns, on the Bruce Highway and beside the UNESCO-listed Wooroonooran National Park. It’s famous for the Babinda Boulders, a scenic swimming hole in tropical rainforest that sits in the shadow of Queensland’s tallest mountain, Mount Bartle Frere. There are plenty of outdoor adventures to enjoy around Babinda and the national park, and good camping facilities, from well-equipped holiday parks to a couple of basic, free riverside campsites. The most basic campsites tend to offer cold showers, and some private campsites are restricted to self-contained camper vehicles only. Babinda is one of the wettest towns in Australia, so be warned: Campers with caravans or motorhomes may be more comfortable than those with tents in the rainy season (November–April). Stay up-to-date with local weather reports to avoid flooded areas. Some campsites close seasonally.
