First-class surfing and a famous rainforest make caravan camping near Burleigh Heads unforgettable.
Part of the World Surfing Reserve, Burleigh Heads delivers big breaks for caravanners craving waves. Whale watching in July and October is also a big hit. Head down Oceanview Walk to spot them, then spend the night at a powered campsite with convenient access to bathrooms, laundry facilities, and dump points. Venture an hour inland to the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest in Lamington National Park, and trek the vast trail network. Then relax at electricity-equipped caravan campsites with communal fire rings and amenities blocks. Plus, hot Queensland summers are a prime time to make the hike to Yerralahla Pool for a dip. Nearby, Springbrook National Park offers more refreshing sights with several stunning waterfalls. Natural Bridge remains one of the best. Visit in December through March, when the rocky walls are lit with glow worms. Camper trailers can stay overnight, but motorhomes will need to cross the border into NSW where a pet-friendly ranch campground on Crystal Creek awaits.
