If you want to catch a snapper or King George whiting on your next camping trip, Balgowan is the place to be! With a population of barely 100 people, this tiny Yorke Peninsula town has far more fish than folk, and it’s a great place to cast a line all year-round. Bring your own boat or kayak to launch from the all-weather boat ramp, or join a fishing charter and pick up some tips from the locals. Balgowan camping options include bush campgrounds right on the oceanfront, caravan parks with pet-friendly powered sites, and scenic Hipcamps with wide-open spaces and amenities like BBQ grills and picnic tables. Aside from fishing and exploring the clifftop coastal walks, there’s little elseto do in the town itself, but the rest of the Yorke Peninsula is just a short drive away. Head north to Port Hughes to swim and enjoy water sports at the sandy beach, or south to Port Victoria, where you can scuba dive at eight shipwrecks around Wardang Island.
