    Welcome to Marron Bush Escape, located in Gosse, in the Western River area (western end, near Flinders Chase National Park) of beautiful Kangaroo Island! This is a beautiful, remote, rural 250 acre private property, it is home to a number of sheep, features dams that have Marron and boasts the best that nature has to offer. Rest assured, you will not see any neighbours on this property; just picturesque landscapes everywhere you look! It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Penneshaw, where you get off the ferry. We offer powered and unpowered camp sites, as well as a bush, cabin. Camp fires (small) are allowed when fire restrictions allow. There is a fire pit that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron. There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water. There is one drop dunny and limited rain water (you are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you need extra). For your convenience, there are recycling and rubbish bins at corner of Snug and Colman’s Rd for all waste disposal. On half of our property we have sheep and lambs in the paddocks. Bring your camera, and you just might be lucky enough to see little lambs playing and even being born. We may also be shearing and invite you to see how this is done. The other half of the property is untouched natural scrub with grass and trees 12 foot tall. There are koalas, eagles, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and lots of other native animals and a creek with small waterfalls. In winter time the ground can be boggy, so a 4WD is desirable and will allow you to explore further. From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). Here, you'll discover 125 acres of untouched Kangaroo Island wilderness with walking trails to explore. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos, wedge-tail eagles, wallabies, large grass trees etc We also have two small lakes that you can have a picnic by or drop some Marron nets in for a fresh feed. There are weighing scales provided at the shed so you can pay for them. This is on an honesty system- so please do the right thing, as we have already been burnt from the fires. You must contact me if you wish to fish for marron prior to catching any. There are no shops or restaurants close by (stock up before arriving!) and you will need to travel down dirt roads but you will really have the opportunity to get off the grid, get back to nature and make memories in the stunning, untouched, Kangaroo Island wilderness! Encouraging lovers of Australian flora and fauna and natural surroundings to come enjoy this special place. A 100 acre Bush woodland block with KI Wildlife fauna and flora. Situated above the islands ismuth and more south Coast. Wildlife includes Western grey kangaroos, KI roos, wallabys, echidna, Rosenburg goanna, abundant birdlife and flora. We were not burnt out here. Our aim is to have complete freedom from stress and anxiety'Ataraxia'. To achieve ataraxia we need to keep our desires in check and simply satisfy our basic needs. Thats what we offer. Raw nature, you bring what you need self contained camping. Toilet facilities may come later if needed. Walks and beautiful beaches, lagoons nearby. Great fishing nearby too. Townships 10-15 mins (Penneshaw and American River) . Kingscote 30-40 mins NO CATS ALLOWED. Other pets allowed but must be controlled by owners as it is a wildlife habitat too. And the roos are BIG! Please do not feed Kangaroos as it encourages dependence. This is a progressive start as a beginner for hosting hipcampers I am taking small steps to improve the facilities as the needs are observed and recognised. May you enjoy and respect this outdoor australian experience.

    We loved staying at Steve's property in Bay of Shoals. It was super spacious, tranquil, private, clean and had an abundance of curious wildlife nearby. It's also close to the brewery, distillery and various wineries. Lastly, we had an issue with our car during our stay and Steve came to our aid at short notice. Much appreciated!

    Rosalie was a great host. Good directions and a friendly welcome. The site was perfect. Even though SA and Kangaroo Island is in drought, the site was picturesque and peaceful. Very quiet and at night very dark!! The campsite is on a working farm and the sheep loved to visit. The site is well located, only 20mins to Kingscote and many of the NE attractions.

    Perfect, peaceful bush camp in a gorgeous valley. Still close enough to Victor Harbour & beaches. Mike & Belinda easy to communicate with, didn't hassle you once you find a spot. Have to mention the Belgium Waffle Cafe called "Belicious" on way into town. Bloody awesome feed!!

    We lived camping at Stephen's. Its a lovely location with beautiful Bay of Shoals and Emu Bay close by and only a short drive to Kingston. The land itself is accessible with views, plenty of space and wildlife. Communication was great and Stephen welcoming. Highly recommend.

    Camping at Alma's Hem was unexpectedly magic. When all the campsites in nearby Deep Creek were booked up for the weekend, we stumbled across Alma's Hem on Hipcamp as an alternative option. We're so glad we did! From the moment we drove in, we could see how quiet, scenic and special this place is. The facilities were very quaint and inviting, including a camp kitchen under the stars. The stage and bar area is fun to walk around and explore, and we had the pleasure of meeting two adorable pups who demanded we throw the stick for them to chase (any time). We can't wait to come back :)

    We loved the seclusion that this camp site offered and the kangaroos who regularly passed through. The verandah and bathroom facilities are an added bonus. . Lovely to see the bush regenerating well after the fire. Convenient location for Vivonne Bay and Flinders Chase National Park.

    We loved camping at Nat & Stu’s; it’s completely private except for the abundant wildlife, the large covered verandah area is a great plus, as is the flush toilet and rain tank water. Vivionne Bay is 10 minutes down the road where there is a great little cafe / general store, and it’s perfectly situated for everything the South Coast has to offer. It’s about 45 minutes to Kingscote, which is the biggest / best serviced township on the island.

    Lots of space between camping groups. Site 3 is up the top, furthest away from the toilets and the entry. No disturbance. Toilets are decent! Lovely views. Easy to find! BBQ area is kept clean and tidy.

    Well presented lot in an ideal location away from the noise of the daily grind. Ample space between the lots and was easy to find using the app directions and the site map on entry. The toilet facilities are much more than you would expect of an outdoor stay and the BBQ cooking facilities looked more than adequate to say the least. Kylie the host was nice and accommodating. I will definitely come again sometime soon.

The location is perfect for accessing the Heysen Trail or just walking/driving through some lovely farming landscapes. A short drive to the coast. What more can you ask for?

    Located on Ramindjeri Country in the heart of the Fleurieu Peninsula, Alma’s Hem is a serene, private campground set by a winter creek on a working cattle farm. An abundance of bird life, wildlife and big night skies. Pitch your tent, swag or park your caravan or RV. Less than 1km from the the Heysen trail, giving you easy access to hikes. 15 minute drive from Victor Harbor for all your shopping conveniences. 20 mins to the stunning Carrackalinga beaches; Kayaking the Second Valley caves and beautiful drives to waterfalls, conservation parks and tourist attractions. Campsites are located on level grassy area. Flushing toilets, fire pit and firewood available. Perfect for a romantic getaway or for small and larger groups. Please note that our property has work dogs who live nearby and love to visit guests. When you arrive there is a map located on the right hand side of the driveway entrance with the sites marked. You are welcome to find your site get comfortable. We will welcome you at some stage! Please contact us if you'd like to book for more guests than listed and we will do our best to accommodate. Campground has shared facilities and respect of each other and the land is critical. We are a leave no trace site, which means everything you bring in you must take with you, which includes rubbish and broken things. The bins at the entrance are for residents only and as they are only collected fortnightly cannot cater for more than those who live here. Firewood can be brought in by you or we will provide wood for $30/night per site. Wood is not to be foraged from adjoining scrub as it is Heritage listed and to be left for habitat, ecosystem and your admiration only! We look forward to crossing paths!     Welcome to your dream destination!! We have two different locations available in Kangaroo Island with some options of sites in each. Below you can see details for our Farm stays or Emu Bay Hideaway camp spots. Check below to see what sites are currently open. Emu Bay Hideaway has 30 hectares of peace, mainly vegetated with Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia, a nationally-protected ecological community). Kangaroos and wallabies are in abundance. It has a wonderful feeling of remoteness and seclusion yet is so close to iconic Emu Bay. Those with 4WD may choose sites overlooking Shoal Bay towards Kingscote. Alternatively, you may set up camp anywhere on the property. There is even one under-cover position with a concrete floor for those concerned about the weather. There are no amenities so guests need to be 100% self-sufficient (including BYO drinking water and toilet) and leave no trace. It is a wild block and only five minutes from the iconic Emu Bay, where the white sandy beach runs for 4kms, most of which is backed by 10 to 20-meter-high dunes. It is one of the best beaches on the island with crystal-clear water. Check with me before lighting a campfire - this depends on the season and risk. Dogs are permitted if well controlled (register visiting dogs with local council). IMPORTANT: I have very limited access to the Internet, only periodically every few days, if that, therefore, I may take some time to respond to inquiries. Kangaroo Island is serviced by regular ferry - check SeaLink for details.
