4 nights at Milleara Gardens

This was our first experience with Hipcamp and our expectations were high. Helen greeted us on arrival and showed us several camp sites , she check on us from times to time to see if we needed anything , all was good. The setting was quiet and rural with the odd cow saying hello. Our dogs loved the location for walks and we found it perfectly central to local district sights and attractions. Great time had. My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Gunya Flat site. Jana was helpful and friendly upon arrival, and the raspberries he gave us were delicious! If you want to escape the crowded campsites, this is the place for you! There are 3 other sites but they are all separated. We enjoyed having a canoe and kayak in the near by creek! We visited nearby towns and the Redwoods which was only 30mins away! Great for big groups of families!

Weekend Trip to Clancy Springs, South Gippsland

This is our third stay and this time we took the whole extended family for Easter. Beautiful setting, caring hosts and high quality amenities. Suited our group with the option of staying in the flat for the non campers in the family. Starlit nights around the campfire and being able to have our dogs close by, safe to run around made it memorable. Highly recommend.

This place is amazing, 90 acres hidden in Mt Martha. Last minute booking over the Easter weekend, Michelle was amazing opening up a site for us. When we arrived she was sooo welcoming and showed us our site. Then dropped us off some firewood. Would highly recommend to stay here and we will be back.

What a gem of a find. 90 acres of bushland on the peninsula which gave us the privacy we were after, as well as having toilets and being able to have a fire just made our Easter, and Michelle and the crew were so helpful in every request. We will definitely be back

We had a great 2 nights at Bunjil. It is on a working berry farm, the land itself is huge and so we weren’t anywhere near the other campers. It’s quiet and peaceful with lots of wildlife. Our dogs loved the space and freedom and being able to swim in the creek. Jana was awesome! Super efficient in communication, and gave us some delicious berries on our arrival. Instructions to get to the site were great and loved how he had them waiting for us along with some info about the area and things to do. The land itself was at a slight angle but it wasn’t a big deal. We will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful experience camping at Milleara Garden. From the moment we arrived, Helen was incredibly friendly and attentive, promptly answering all our questions as we navigated our first adventure into off-grid camping. The surroundings were absolutely stunning, with lush greenery and vibrant flowers creating a serene atmosphere. It felt like a peaceful retreat, far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, and the tranquility was a refreshing escape from the constant noise of traffic.

The site was really nice, with open views and flat ground - the land was perfect for us tent campers (group of 8). The picnic table was very convenient, and Christine was very responsive and helpful. We had a lovely stay, and would recommend. Note the site is relatively close to a main road, and there is some minor road noise, but nothing too bad.

Great site, great host. Good level of privacy and the kayaks turned out to be an unexpected highlight. Dogs loved exploring off leash and paddling in the creek. Would absolutely come back again and again!

3 nights at Clancy Springs, South Gippsland

We absolutely loved our stay at Kangaroo Rise! The hosts Adrian and Sandy were wonderful and welcoming and very knowledgable about the area. Their property is beautifully presented and they work very hard to make sure everyone can enjoy their experience. The camp kitchen is impressive with a toilet and shower at back and both are spacious and thoughtfully appointed. The camping area has a great sense of space, we didnt feel too close to anyone, we could enjoy the views around us, and those views are spectacular! It was great to see the wildlife around the property too. If you have children, they will love looking for koalas, seeing kangaroos, a variety of native birds and the wedge tailed eagles are so majestic. The property is away from the road, and provides a peaceful, tranquil escape. It is also in close proximity of Leongatha and Inverloch for day trips out or supply runs. I cannot fault the property and we truly loved our time there. Our doggo was able to relax in the fully fenced camping area and enjoy the space and the smells. Pepper loved her stay! We look forward to another visit soon and will recommend this destination to everyone. Theres is also a two bedroom, beautiful, sparkling clean and modern unit to stay in as an option. Its truly such a magnificent property to enjoy. Thank you both Adrian and Sandy for a wonderful time at Kangaroo Rise!!

Our empty and unused dairy has space available out the front for up to 3, fully self contained vans (no tents) Located on the edge of the picturesque town of Buln Buln postcode 3821 (not Moe) take in views of rolling green hills and heritage listed oak trees while the gentle cattle and sheep graze nearby paddocks. We have access to power and river water on all three sites (not suitable for drinking) but no toilet so your vehicle must be fully self contained. One site is a drive through concrete slab, the other two are grassed sites. The grassed sites are next to each other and the slab site is on the opposite site of the driveway. There is a free public dump point available at Neerim South (a 10 minute drive north) 10 minutes drive to the larger township of Warragul. Firewood and eggs from our happy free range hens can be provided for an additional fee. Please only use the provided fire pits and no fires are allowed on total fire ban days. There is no access to the main house or paddocks unless accompanied by the property host. There is some traffic noise during the day but the nights are peaceful. Dogs are welcome but please ensure that they remain on leads at all times. Each site is limited to one vehicle and van or single campervan. Should you have a larger group and want to bring additional vehicles please book an additional site. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us.

There is a few apple orchards near by one with a cafe attached to their distillery. The property is a working farm specialising in horse riding lessons. The camp site is literally up the back paddock and just under an hour from Melbourne. It is 4wd access only. And you will need to be an experienced 4wd driver. Whilst sheep and cattle graze on one side of the fence, the wildlife grazing on "our" side includes echidnas, wombats, wallabies, possums, koalas, and is home to more than 30 species of birds identified so far. Tarwin Lower EcoStudio is not far out of town and the Tarwin River (4 kms), for boating, paddling and fishing. Slightly further afield is Andersen Inlet (great fishing, paddling, paddle boarding, boating, and shallow waters for very young children), Venus Bay Surf beaches, and Walkerville South bay beach (with boat ramp). Waratah Bay and Wilsons Promontory less than an hour's drive away. And that's just the water sports. The Great Southern Rail Trail is just up the road, at Koonwarra or Leongatha, and has a range of rides with varying degrees of challenge. Explore all the Yarra Ranges has to offer including a short walk to Shiprock Falls. Grab a coffee or pizza in nearby Gembrook and checkout some farm produce from your hosts before you leave. We have added a composting toilet, a drinking water tank and a bush pole shelter with cold water kitchen sink, phone charger ports, lights and hot water to a private shower and a picnic table with seats under cover. We have an adjacent fire pit area with tree log seating. You can order firewood from us too and a Coleman gas cooker with gas bottle (see extras). With a large covered deck connected to the front of the tiny house, you don't have to go anywhere to witness Wedge-tailed Eagles, Black Cockatoos, King Parrots, Rosellas and Kookaburra to name a few. Or wombats scurrying into their warren in the embankment just below the tiny house. Or the wallabies that hang out in the front paddock. If you're a fit walker, you can hike up to the back of the property that borders an old pine plantation now full of regrowth where herds of deer call it home. At the right time of day, you're likely to see all kinds of water fowl in the damns around the property. And if you're lucky, our 3 alpaca will let you photograph them as they stare you down, but no cuddles for these guys -- they're there to keep the foxes away. Night time is magical. With no light pollution, it's a stargazers paradise and on a still evening you'll hear boobooks, possums and frogs. The popular tourist village of Yarragon is 16km down a winding unsealed road one way, while the larger town of Mirboo North is about the same distance going the other way. Mount Worth State Park is 13km from our property and Lyrebird Forest Walk Regional Park is 26km just outside Mirboo North. While there's a lot to do around these parts, my guess is you won't want to leave the property.

Situated in West Gippsland, Casa Cucina is a feast for the senses from the alpine majesty of the Baw Baw Plateau, the Bunyip State Forest, the lush green valleys, to the rivers and streams… there is always something to do in West Gippsland for the curious. Further exploration in the area may include Gumbuya World, Nangara Reserve, Noojee and Neerim South. The Tarago River backs onto our small yet spacious, open yet shaded space we would welcome you to. The river is ‘swimmable’ (at your own risk), a lovely spot to cool off on our warm summer days, or a mesmerising place to sit, watch, read, contemplate, draw or write. It awakens the creative juices to be in such beauty in nature. Some large old Mountain Ash remain along the river bank, with lots of new plantings. It is not uncommon to see an echidna, a variety of stunning birdlife, and on dusk, maybe a wombat family. As we only take one booking at a time you will enjoy exclusive use of this peaceful space. A maximum of 4 vans on River block and 2 on adjoining paddock, in one group. Our river block can hold up to 4 caravans (under 10 metres) and a couple of tents in one group (one booking). In addition, the upper adjoining block can accommodate 2 caravans. This is a single group occupancy site so you can enjoy the privacy of your group. If you wish to hook into our powered site, please add $10 per night, per van. All campers will also have access to our Casa Cucina gorgeous eclectic, quirky community space to sit in out of the weather. Please note: This is not an accommodation space. As a reminder, all campers will need to be Self Contained as we have no toilet facilities, no access to fresh water, no hot showers or cooking facilities.

Trickle Hill Cottage

Trickle Hill is a lovely cottage tucked away at the edge of our bush. You have your own little patio, and can go for adventurous walks straight from your living room ! We are close to Dandenong ranges, Yarra valley, Bunyip state park, and Puffing Billy. We are just behind Avalon castle- so great if you are attending a wedding We welcome couples, solo adventurers and families. We are of course LGBTI+ friendly! Dogs are very welcome. The cottage is a converted shed, with three bedrooms, a lovely living area and a cosy closed woodfire. We have a sheltered outdoor area, where you can have a barbeque, or have a small fire in a firedish. The cottage is in the bush, so you can walk out and try to find our resident breeding pair of Lyrebirds, echidnas, wombats, wallabies and kangaroos or the deer that live in our 'back yard'. Or just roam, which shouldn't be too hard on 67 acres . We are close to massive areas of bush with open trails. Dogs are very welcome- no cats. As we live in the bush, we do our best to keep everything as 'green' as we can- so please don't use harsh chemicals. Living in the bush brings with it that you cannot light a fire in fire danger periods, and, heating on a woodstove, means there is a hot stove in the room. (watch those little fingers...) Our aim is to give you a place of rest and enjoyment. We love to share our space as we love it here so much- and hope you love it too. As life is a project - don't expect 10* linen and luxury, state of the art gardens and clipped lawns, but a friendly welcoming atmosphere where you can be yourself and relax. We love to have visitors, and chat for a bit- or leave you to relax. The cottage is on the edge of the bush, where you are welcome to roam on the tracks or off them- at your own risk :-) We are both artists, and our studio's are close to the cottage, which might make some noise, but we'll try to keep it at a minimum when guests are here. The upside is, you could learn something if interested :-) (contact us for workshops) We have a working hobby farm- with some machinery, animals (pigs, dogs, horses, ducks and chickens). You can interact with the animals if you talk to us about safety first, but the horse paddock is out of bounds. ( they can behave unpredictable, are very large (!) and very valuable) Our dogs are very friendly and will most probably visit you. Our puppy still has lots to learn :-) Our property is stock- fenced, our animals will stay in, but dogs are able to roam if they are not staying with you. There is no secure yard to leave your dog during the day, you are expected to be in control of your dogs at all times. If they are ok with horses, chooks and dogs, and under voice command, they can be off leash. Dogs are not to sleep on the beds. We are a rural property with animals, and there are dams on the property, (not close to the cottage) so please keep an eye on children - we cannot take responsibility for your persons or animals. Living on a farm means that not everything is neat, safe, flat or person-proof. Often there is actual work being done involving machinery. Coming here is entirely at your own risk. (sorry for all the disclaimers...) But- of course- if there is anything we can do to make your visit more pleasurable, we will do our best to do so!

Overview

If you want to see some of Australia’s iconic animals, Victoria’s Phillip Island is a must-visit. Famed for its free-roaming penguins and the country’s largest colony of fur seals, the island is also home to the Phillip Island Wildlife Park, with more than 100 different species of native animals, as well as a koala conservation center. You’ll also find a dramatic coastline with beaches perfect for swimming and surfing. Many travelers visit on a day trip from Melbourne, but by setting up camp for a night or more, you’ll get to enjoy all the island has to offer.

Where to go

Summerlands

On the southwestern tip of Phillip Island, Summerlands is home to the island’s main attraction, the Penguin Parade. The natural spectacle of tens of thousands of penguins emerging from the ocean and waddling toward their nests takes place just after sunset every evening. Nearby you’ll find Nobbies Centre, outside of which you can see fur seals and birds, then learn about them through interactive displays. As Summerlands is a protected area, you’ll need to set up camp a little farther away. Nevertheless, you’ll find camping areas within a 10-minute drive.

Ventnor

In the small town of Ventnor, just a five-minute drive from the Penguin Parade, camping options include upscale glamping near Berry’s Beach and rural settings near Ventnor Beach.

Cowes

As the island’s main township, Cowes is home to several accommodation options, including camping areas. Your choices include family-friendly holiday parks with access to both the beach and nearby shops and restaurants.

Newhaven

In the southeast of the island, minutes from San Remo, Newhaven is home to caravan parks set upon sand dunes. Some parks feature powered caravan sites and non-powered camping grounds, plus comforts such as wifi and family playgrounds.
