Magic Mountain

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents40 acres · Humevale, VIC
Nestled amongst the mountains just outside of the township of Whittlesea our 40-acre property sits above the clouds. This experience comes with sweeping views, a hidden waterfall, a clear campground, and plenty of wildlife. The camping area is accessible by 4WD only, otherwise, strap on a backpack and earn it! (800m walk/hike from where a non-4WD can park). The waterfall is reached by a single trail track from the campsite, and you do need to be an experienced hiker to get to the waterfall. Which is part of the appeal! We welcome self-contained campers, who bring their own toilet and take all waste with them. We have a strict Leave No Trace policy. Or choose to stay in our beautiful A-frame cabin, with plush bedding, cozy fire, and outdoor lounge. More than anything else this is a place to relax and be away from normal, live outside yourself, and rediscover what weekends are for.  Dogs are welcome, so long as they don't bother the wildlife. Campfires are allowed, BYO firewood or campers can collect fallen timber from the property.

Wombat Gully Camp

2 sites · Lodging, Tents27 acres · Creightons Creek, VIC
Wombat Gully Camp is on 11 hectares of private land just 2 hours drive from Melbourne. Much like a national park only you will relish the experience of being immersed in nature. Hike in camping at Wombat Gully is ideal for solo campers or couples wanting to carry in a backpack with everything you need. If you enjoy a little more comfort Milly Wilson Vintage caravan is on offer. Enjoy a fire pit and cooking in the outdoors and then getting cosy in the van at night. The land is incredibly beautiful and varied. You will enter into a bracken field at the top of the land with views stretching across the entire valley. This is where Milly Wilson the vintage caravan sits. As you walk down the land along the gully aka 'Wombat Gully' you will see wombat holes everywhere. The gully is surrounded by boulders where echidnas like to hide. The kangaroos linger in the grassy wooded areas. There are animal trails all around the land and they are the paths you should follow. If you're a hike in camper you'll walk down the gully and cross over the small creek and head to the back of the land. You will arrive at your campsite, a nice flat area, that has beautiful views of the entire valley. If you are camping you need to arrive well before sunset. Please allow 15-30 mins to walk to campsite 1. That allows enough time and avoids the dangers of walking in the dark (wombat holes). When darkness falls the beautiful Milky Way will appear clearly in the night sky. There is a lot of fire risk so please take great care using the fire pit. May-September fires are allowed subject to weather conditions. There is extreme bushfire risk and no fires are allowed October-April. There is a designated fire pit available at the caravan and the campsite. If camping you will need to bring in everything including food and water. We do have a spring which runs into a small creek. If you want to drink from it you will need to treat the water. Toilets are simple. We have a Jimmy's Thunderbox. Make sure you are happy to dig a hole, cover things up and leave no trace. Our land is beautiful and we love it for the granite boulders and the gully with the trickling stream. Views of the valley are spectacular. It's an adventurous getaway for those who love nature and want to feel some freedom, to hike and explore, to relax in nature and soak up the forest feeling, and sleep in the mighty outdoors. Further afield Euroa is 30 mins drive away and has a great pub called the Seven Creeks Hotel. It has a lovely beer garden and the food is delicious. Avenel is 30 mins drive away and has an excellent wood fired pizza place called Bank Street Pizza. Gooram Falls is a beautiful natural water hole. Really worth a visit and a swim if it's hot and taking in the vista if it's cold.

The Stables On Knox

1 site · Lodging33 acres · Romsey, VIC
Welcome to our family and friends of our first listing - Book A Paddock, and to our new gang with The Stables on Knox. The Stables was a functioning stable, dairy and horse and cart garaging area in the properties heyday many decades ago. The cattle would be walked up a lane, be held in the cobblestone yards you have exclusive use of, be walked into the stalls, where your pizza oven now stands, manually milked, and then turned out to what is now your BBQ area. Its now your next luxe rural getaway. Leave the tent and van behind for this little slice of the good life. Bring your bestie - even your neighbours and your fur baby for a sit back and relax experience. The paddocks to the back of the property are yours to walk to take in the peace and the wildlife. They are abundant with kangaroos and their joeys in the spring so we ask you go quietly and slowly so they can move away slowly. The birdsong is a great way to relax with your book, listening to the sounds of nature.

Glamping in Yarra Valley with a private bathroom guide

Overview

Fanning out around Victoria’s Yarra River, the Yarra Valley is a fertile region that’s renowned for its cool-climate wines, foodie experiences, rolling countryside, and mountainous parks, all close to Melbourne city. The main towns in the Yarra Valley are Coldstream, Yarra Glen, Healesville, and Warburton. Campers can enjoy a range of options, from basic tent sites surrounded by bush to glamping, cabins, and well-equipped holiday parks. The Yarra Ranges National Park is full of rainforest and is a snowy playground in winter, and there are other parks and reserves throughout the Yarra Valley area. The Yarra Valley area tends to experience four distinct seasons, with attractive autumns, hot summers, and cold winters.

Where to go

Healesville

A main Yarra Valley town, Healesville is a hub of food and drink (largely wine!) and a handy base for campers who want to enjoy the restaurants or prepare their own gourmet meals around the campfire. The town is equipped with holiday parks with good facilities and different camping options to suit various budgets. Healesville is a short distance from the Maroondah Reservoir, where there are picnic spots and scenic walks.

Yarra Ranges National Park

The forested Yarra Ranges National Park spreads out around the Yarra Valley towns of Marysville, Healesville, and Warburton. The trees and vegetation here are especially impressive, and are a lovely environment for short walks and hikes. There are campsites throughout this national park but some of these have undergone repairs after storms; if they’re unavailable, there are nearby campsites and holiday parks elsewhere in the Yarra Valley, including Healesville and at other national and regional parks.

Kinglake National Park

A popular spot among hikers, mountain bikers, and campers, the Kinglake National Park is on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range and is easily accessible from the Yarra Valley. Keen and casual bird watchers alike will also enjoy looking out for the colourful bird life in this park, and the tall Masons Falls are especially impressive after rain. The small campsite within the park has space for tents, caravans, and camper vans, and is surrounded by shady eucalyptus trees.

Dandenong Ranges National Park

The Dandenong Ranges are often referred to at the same time as the Yarra Valley, as many day or overnight trippers from Melbourne visit both areas. The cool rainforested mountains are dotted with waterfalls, making this an ideal destination for hiking and picnicking, as well as camping. Campers can find everything from basic tent sites to luxurious cabins in the Dandenong Ranges, and it’s all very accessible from Melbourne.
